Revisiting the preseason BIG Media Poll

Thought it would be interesting to revisit this now that we are in the middle of the BIG season. Here were the preseason predictions, compared to the actual standings at present

1. Michigan State (Actual: tied 1st)

2. Michigan (actual: tied 1st)

3. Indiana (actual: tied 10th)

4. Nebraska (actual: tied 10th)

5. Purdue (actual: 3rd)

6. Wisconsin (actual: 5th)

7. Maryland (actual: 4th)

8. Ohio State (actual: 9th)

9. Minnesota (actual: 6th)

10. Iowa (actual: 7th)

11. Penn State (actual: 14th)

12. Northwestern (actual: tied 10th)

13. Illinois (actual: 13th)

14. Rutgers (actual: 8th)

So, the top two predictions are looking solid thus far, as is lolIllinois. Most others were close, with Indiana, Nebby and Rutgers being the major outliers. Will be interesting to review this again at the end of the season.

I figured we were in for a struggle these 2018-19 and 2019-20 seasons given bad break with Lathon and youth.

I really don't understand the sudden loss of confidence around here.

While I hoped we'd get more wins in the conference, nothing has been a surprise so far.


We have a decent but flawed team in a very deep Big Ten.

If we make the NIT this year or next, I think that's overachieving relative to where we should be. I think raising expectations makes sense around the 2020-2021 season depending on how recruiting and development go.


Hopefully we reach the point where CCC has a loaded team and can get the program rolling to the point where we can expect tournament bids, but that's clearly a few classes away.
