So we have the NIL, we have the upstart charismatic, offensive minded coach.. what's the problem here?
He wants to be the man. That won’t happen here. With what we’re looking at, he’d likely have been an 8th/9th option.

Maybe he knows there are better players coming in and he would have to fight for playing time

Unbelievable. Maybe all in then a change of heart. Was hoping to get to see him play. Hard to get players like that.

To me this tells me Saunders couldn’t get sold on a 7th or 8th man role,
He’s a Mormon kid from Utah.
Can’t blame a kid like that for choosing to stay home and keep playing for BYU. It’s probably the school he grew up dreaming of playing for.
well that stinks. I guess the caffiene on campus scared him off.
Hopefully this means we are getting some high level kids at his position that he felt better staying at BYU than competing for PT here.
Could be as simple as he's married, and once they visited, they didn't think it was the right fit as a family.

That's going to be an issue in this high nil stakes world: we can only start or play so many. Tough to recruit talented depth if they won't have a significant role.
Jmo but probably have to fill slots 7-10 with 3 and hopefully 4 star freshmen. Portal guys aren't signing up for that.

Well it took a Jeff Sheppard to win the 98 title. Saunders is comparable to him. ... but its not like there arent players in the portal that are as good if not better. now we have to go get those guys.
I see this as a good sign based on what we learned today.
Hope they still get Jaxson Robinson
People can say what they want but it's getting concerning about players.
I wanted Saunders high energy off the bench... but key word there is bench.

Still he was obviously a decent priority, sucks his coach couldn’t recruit him here.
I’m definitely a little concerned, good news is a lot of talent is about to enter the portal still. Bad news is it’s hard to convince transfers to come and be bench players and we need a whole team.
With Hart and Brooks and Pope's charisma..... im not worried in the long run. but if we fail to land anyone that's visiting in the next 5 days ( includes Osobor) then i'll be worried about this upcoming season. And if we have a bad year ..... so be it a year 1 rebuild usually isnt good anyways.

If Cal can convince DJ Reeves Dilly and Reed to play on the same team , I dont see why it would be hard to get good players as backups. honestly though we might be in the age it costs more to get backups for it to be ok with them not to start.
