Rick Barnes fired at Texas

Word yesterday was an ultimatum from the AD saying he had to change his staff or be fired.

I guess he wouldn't change. Patterson is putting his imprint on Longhorn athletics. Sometimes stuff like this works out. Sometimes, cleaning house isn't an improvement.

I hadn't realized he was there for that long. That is a really long tenure for any coaching job. In spite of his firing, he was a huge success. Rick Barnes will be missed. I wish him well.

I think Patterson will be fired in 2016.... Strong is not working out and if he doesn't hire a home run in basketball his *** is on the line and should be. I don't want to hear about Strong doing a good job in recruiting, Texas has zero momentum going in football right now.

I don't think your evaluation of Strong is necessarily accurate. He had a pretty good recruiting class. Texas was better at the end of the year, and he didn't some house cleaning that needed to be done.

If they have two more .500 seasons, then I'll agree with you. But if I were a Longhorn fan, I'd be encouraged about football. And I won't be surprised if Texas is better next year in basketball. They have a pretty good talent base. We'll see.

But I'll tell you this. I wouldn't trade AD's with anybody in the country. And I especially wouldn't trade AD's with Texas. I'm glad they have the guy they have. I hope he cleans house across the board.

I'm not sure about Strong 'not working out'...If I were a Longhorn fan, I would be a lot more excited about this upcoming season in football than most Sooners are. In fact, most guesses I have seen have us losing to them next year.

Yes Texas will be great as they have a potential Heisman candidate at QB.... Back to basketball Texas is not a top 10 job anymore its comical listening to these Texas fans.

I heard the story of him being asked to change his staff, too.
I would have taken the same approach and declined to make forced changes.
All that would have done was delay his departure for a year.
And with a new staff, recruiting would suffer and they likely would not be as good as this year.
I'd rather be let go, then move on to the next opportunity.

It was time for a change and Patterson did this same thing at Arizona St which only prolonged the situation. Patterson is so arrogant it makes me proud to have Joe C. As far as football time will tell with Strong and if any Texas fan thinks they are in better shape than OU is crazy.

Augie may want to get a little further in the tournament this year..

Give him a chance with hi players. He has only been there 1 year.
