Was there a show cause restriction placed on the hiring of Pitino? Just can't remember the full situation at Louisville.

Did some more reading and the decision on Louisville hasn’t yet been handed down. At that time it is possible that the NCAA could impose a show cause penalty. At that point Iona will have some explaining to do.

Why? He hasn’t even coached there yet.

Show cause was designed to keep coaches from hopping schools from where infractions occurred. By employing a coach with a show cause designation they must go in front of the NCAA infractions committee to explain the hire. Penalties can in theory can follow the coach and any infractions while in the new job are dealt with more severely.
