After the game we had tonight, how do they edge ahead of us? As dominating a game on both ends as you can get. I just don't get it. Granted, the difference is only .0002, but still.

I have no idea. We scored more, held them to fewer points than UVA allowed...idk.

I don't really care, UVA is not on our level. I hope we play them in the tournament to end this hilarious debate by some media people. I hope we run up the score on them.

The same reason a 3 loss Duke team will remain in the AP top 5 after losing to UL Sat. The same reason unc **** stays in the ap top 25 with 5 loses. GBB

Our strength of schedule dropped from 30 something to like 47

we were tops until they put in Miami's win and Miami jumped up 20+ spots

I'm puzzled by it, I mean, meh, games aren't played on KenPom. I'll check tomorrow and see if anything changes at all, but it is what it is I guess. What I do know is this though. Packline defense is a team defense. One player breaks down, the entire defense has a hard time recovering. We certainly have far and away more athleticism, and that's something that can hurt that defense. Now that UK has also found its 3 point shot, UVA would be in the danger zone for the length of the game.

So Miami blowing out Duke pushed Virginia past us on a computer model? I'll take it.

SOS folks. SOS. Miami beating Duke at Duke really did a boon for how good of a win UVA's OT win in Miami. The three games we had after Christmas murdered our offensive efficiency ranking too. Miami's offense looked bad for one games, Kentucky has had several where it just looked like a steaming pile of crap. And almost all of UVA's best wins have come on the road, and that counts for more than home or neutral site wins.

I guess EKU should be looking at a 3 or 4 seed.

Kenpom comes up with some bizarre numbers sometimes. He should be embarrassed that this happened. We'll see in a couple weeks when they play UNCheat,Duke, and UL in a row. I wish we could play Virginia tomorrow.

You obviously missed the point. Miami has wins over then #4 Pomeroy Duke, on the road, then #7 Florida, on the road, and then #23 Illinois. Plus dropping 80 on UVA is magic for your offensive efficiency ranking. That more than counter balances the EKU game. And EKU ranks 71st on Pomeroy, so it's not like they lost to a bad teaam.

What he said. Duke getting blown out at home (no "longest home court winning streak") is worth it.

Here are a few reasons:

1. Virginia played well tonight
2. Diminishing returns for blow outs
3. Miami crushed Duke, increasing Virginia's SOS

So if all of this is correct, I'm assuming that when UL beats Duke our strength of schedule goes up and UVA's goes down.

It depends on margin of victory. Since Louisville is the favorite, they could win and suffer a slight decrease in their rating. If Louisville wins be a decent margin, like 10 or more, it would give a slight nudge to UK's SOS. Our performance against Alabama and Virgina's against Boston College will have a more profound impact on their respective ratings.

I wouldn't worry about it. Just take solace in the fact that Kentucky looks good according to every objective measure. Such coherence suggests UK is an awfully good basketball team.

I honestly could give two ***** what any computer model says. At the end of the season Kentucky will have their ninth national championship.

If Duke loses to UL and stays in the top ten, I will throw up on the ESPN website.

When UVA has as many good wins as us come back and holler at me.

Why would anyone care one little iota what a KenPom or other mathematical/computer formula says?

What I like about Kenpom is that it is based on a mathematical formula, not based on Someone's biases. It isn't perfect but it isn't biased. It has had UK ranked first most of the season till now. As long as we keep winning and improving obviously we have as good a chance as any team in the country to win the NCAA tourney this year.

Does non-hysterical, dispassionate, discussion about the details of a computer formula bother you? Nobody is freaking out or claiming bias. Just a simple question about something that didn't seem logical. Since you obviously "don't care", why open the thread and comment?

When does KenPom update? Did the site already incorporate last night's game? I doubt it. I thought I read last week that Virginia would pass UK based on last week's games once it updated.

Why would he be embarrassed? Because you don't understand how the model (which is far from perfect, but overall pretty solid) works? He's even said to take early and mid season numbers with a huge grain of salt. I'm sure once UVA plays those teams and the model has more data it can better evaluate UVA. You know, just as the author states and just as any computer model works.

Srsly, folks. Srsly.

Considering it's the Pomeroy rankings, how efficient each team is on offense and defense will have more effect on the rankings than anything else.
