In my mind, he was a superb coach. I grew up with a dad who was very, very rough around the edges, authoritarian (correct spelling?) and intimidating, but he instilled a resiliance in me.

Abusive? Doubtful. The gymnasts under him by and large defended his tactics and personality. There are always two sides to the coin. Always.
