I have to admit that I initially dismissed them as derivative Chuck Berry for SoCal white kids music. Once you get past the initial hits and really listen to Pet Sounds and the subsequent output, BW was a heavyweight and a great songwriter. BBs still aren't one of my faves but my respect for them has grown quite a bit since my first exposure.

Guy was a fantastic song write/front man.

Fun fact….. one of the Barenaked Ladies’ best songs (and my personal fav) is called “Brian Wilson” and is a tribute to said BB front man.

Started listening to the Beach Boys at age 14 bought "Surfing USA" with money from my paper route. Have listened to their music and Brian's later stuff all my life. Just yesterday I pulled up an album he made around 2012 - No Pier Pressure. Had a feeling he might not be with us much longer. Tragic loss, Brian was the greatest song writer ever and a musical genius

Don't know how to link but one of the funnier moments in any movie was Keith Moon trying to sing Barbara Ann in The Who's, The Kids are All Right

They were just messing around, but while Townsend was really getting into it, Keith was epically failing. 🤣

Just watched Echo in the Canyon Monday night and he was in that a lot and so many musicians considered him to be the best or one of the top song writers ever. He was complimented highly in that show. He was 75 when that was made.

I loathe the BB.

No disrespect intended to BW, but their music is just horrible. Fortunately, in my 40+ years of gigging, I've never had to play any of their songs... in fact, I've never had a single request to play a BB song.

No disrespect intended.... *then decides to take a gigantic **** on their entire career and rub it in their face*

None taken!

I mean, that's a low bar when no one requests to hear you play anything, ever.

Remember Wilson Phillips? Brian's daughters teaming up with John and Michelle Phillips (Mamas and the Papas) daughter. Briefly popular in the early 90s.

I’m not here to try and convince you of the greatness of The Beach Boys…But would you mind telling us what kind of music you’re into?

As a kid I loved their surfer pop stuff.

As an adult I loved Pet Sounds, especially the lesser known tracks like” I’m Waiting for the Day”. If you look it up give it a chance as it starts out slow.

Wilson was a song writing genius. It’s amazing how few of those we have.
