C’mon man. Charlie would want you to joke in his honor.
Damn. Had a special voice just made for country music.
Charley Pride is the subject of one of those memories where you’re like, “WhyTF do I remember that?” We were watching probably the 83 or 84 country music awards on TV and Charley Pride and Sylvia were about to present an award. The hosts were announcing the presenters of the awards. The guy said something about a new way of introducing the presenters using their first and last names, and led with “I’d like to introduce Charley .... with Pride” and then the female host said “how are you going to introduce Sylvia?” Got a big laugh from the crowd.

Can you imagine what that guy endured during his early career? I’d love to see a documentary about his life. He was a pioneer and deserves nothing but respect
Always loved this song... was born in '63 and I can remember hearing this on the radio as a kid like it was yesterday... RIP
It's in episode 5 of Ken Burns Country Music series, which is a must see series overall. I saw somebody once quoted as saying that if Ken Burns produced a series on the history of sofas, they'd watch it, and it would be worth watching.
