Dr Gragg. Please consider retiring his jersey @ homecomming. What an incredible journey on the football field, yet even larger accomplishments off the field inpacting so many others in the most eloquent and inspiring ways! RIP, Dennis
Let me start by saying, in no way am I saying this should not be done at some point...it just should not be done this week. There needs to be a time for his family and close friends to grieve and process through this. In the future when they are ready that's when you have the ceremony where it can be more of a celebration of Dennis Byrd's life and the tremendous inspiration he provided to youth, football players, and those who have suffered traumatic spinal cord injuries. I don't think a rushed ceremony a week after his death can possible do justice to him or his legacy.

The University of Tulsa football team will honor former defensive end Dennis Byrd on Saturday during the Hurricane’s homecoming game against Tulane.

For the 2:45 p.m. game at H.A. Chapman Stadium, players’ helmets will include a decal with Byrd’s name and his TU number, 48. In addition to other planned tributes, there will be a pregame moment of silence in Byrd’s memory and TU flags in the end zone will be at half staff.
