As co-writer of Sweet Home Alabama, he said it put bread on his table for 40 years. Always intrigued by how much songwriters make. Seems he saved enough judging by the home he had in Nashville.

Wow this one stings a little. Loved watching him lower the boom on people. First ballot HOF no doubt.

This was one of my favorite Southern Rock groups. It seems they are leaving us one by one. I thank him for sharing his talent with the world and Rest In Peace Ed. We loved you, we loved your music and we loved Lynyrd Skynyrd.

As a bar band guitarist, I am FB friends with a few music store owners who were also friends with Ed... so I would see him post frequently.

Really sharp guy who was way more sophisticated and intelligent than you might expect. Great sarcastic sense of humor- RIP Ed!

Showtime is currently running a Lynyrd Skynrd documentary. In it, King explains why he left the band. The final straw was after a concert in which King had to play a show with two bad/broken guitar strings. Ronnie chewed his butt out after the show and told him that he wasn't half the guitarist that Allen Collins was. He quit the next day in the middle of the tour. I saw another interview where King said Ronnie put a broken beer bottle up to a band member's throat in a drunken rage. King said he couldn't stand the threat of violence.

It is ironic that Gary Rossington is the only original band member left alive. The song "That Smell" was written about Rossington's drug abuse and an accident that almost killed him. Now he is the last man standing.

Sorry to see him go. Certainly made his mark on rock 'n roll. Never like LS at all but, hell, every guitarist ever has to learn that opening lick to 'Sweet Home'. His legacy will live on for a long time as long as there are bar bands with electric guitars.
