Sadly the only time I got to see them was on the "A Different Kind of Truth" tour, which opened at the YUM. It was probably the most disappointing show I've ever been to. Not sure if it was because they sucked or just that I had built up the legend of Van Halen in my head so much nothing could live up to it. Probably a little of both. But I can still think back to the summer of 84 when Hot for Teacher and Jump were in heavy rotation on MTV. It was glorious.

I was never that big of a fan of the group, but my cousins were. Hot for Teacher is their ‘best’ song according to this simpleton who has never really gone deep in their catalog. Just a perfect hard pop rock song. Eddie obviously was a big part of that. I also liked his playing in Finish What You Started. Such a great sound. RIP.

Man, this has been the worst year ever!

First the greatest rock drummer (Neil Peart) and now the greatest rock guitarist!

(It’s my opinion, so don’t correct me and tell me Hendrix, Clapton, etc. or Bonham, Moon, etc. were better.)

2020 can’t end soon enough!

So sad. I heard his cancer returned but did not expect this. Van Halen is one of my favorite bands. He was amazing. Saw the 5150 and OU812 concerts.

Man that is some sad news. I'm only in my 20s so I wasnt around during their peak years but I got into them because my parents were fans. Went and seen them about 10 years ago I think it was. Was a great show.

I am officially done with 2020. Let me out of this hellscape year please.

Can you imagine a band trying to get away with the HFT video today?

Ha ha.... I was there too. Left after five songs and went to Gerstle’s. That was a hell of a night.

I don't think there is such a thing as a "best" guitarist but he's on my Mt. Rushmore of most innovative and influential guitarists. He changed the game for rock guitar players. RIP

In terms of substance, Van Halen was no better than Aerosmith. They just had a better guitar player. I can't think of a single Van Halen song that had any real substance to it.

Take Skynyrd for instance, they had "Sweet Home Alabama", "Curtis Loew", "Saturday Night Special", etc., songs of substance.

I had no idea that Corey Feldman played guitar
