Cause of death? Cancer?
His family confirmed the news in a statement on Friday, saying:

It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of our beloved husband and father, Greg Gumbel. He passed away peacefully surrounded by much love after a courageous battle with cancer. Greg approached his illness like one would expect he would, with stoicism, grace, and positivity.

Sad news. I will always remember gumbel introducing the brackets to all of us.
Man I just read this on ESPN. The Bracket reveal won’t be the same. He has been the voice of March for as long as I can remember. I hate getting old, pretty soon we won’t even have Jim Nantz. R.I.P. I hope you enjoy calling all the games in the sky.

Like many have already said, you have come to associate Greg Gumbel with the NCAA Tournament and the voice of Selection Sunday. Always one of those days you look forward to every year. Missed him apart of March Madness this year. RIP Greg!

He has been the guy who announced the brackets for my entire life. It’s sad, his voice is what I associate with March madness

Bryant's older brother and I would much rather here Greg call a game than Bryant. Greg was a great NFL announcer also.

The dude was pure class. Hate to see this.
The funny thing is I always thought Bryant was older than Greg. He certainly was in the national spotlight earlier as far as I remember.

Sad news. He brought a lot of happiness to the game of college basketball on Selection Sunday.

This world is one constant reminder of the pain of death. Thank God for His precious grace.

My prayer this morning is that Mr. Gumbel's family can draw close to God during this time.
