Would you believe that he took in a young Jack Nicholson for a roommate? (Listen to the 1st part of this before the singing):

Blind Dick Rielly was one of his 1st on screen characters.

Just came across this quote that I greatly appreciate:

"Every actor is a character actor," he shrugged. "I was offered a whole career. I could have been a leading man, much more famous, much richer, and with more *****, onscreen and off."

While at Kentucky, he was criticized for a lazy walk. Dude did wear size 32 Nikes, but he could ball.

RIP big man.

Ky boy, a child during the Depression, served in the Navy, went to UK after the war. Just like my dad. The greatest generation is just as advertised.

Have you seen anywhere what years he was at UK?

No, sorry. He was 91 and Dad will be in November. Dad went into the Navy before finishing high school. I think he was 17. Dad learned to play the harmonica on a ship in Mobile. They dropped the bomb and Dad got to finish HS (Bald Knob- Franklin County) and go to UK on the GI Bill. Hope that helps.
