Wow! He looked to be full of energy just a few months ago when I saw him on TV.

RIP. Hogan was one of the first wrestling superstars who really couldn’t wrestle. Pedro Morales or Bruno would have taken him apart.
Certainly you're joking. The WWF was never wrestling......it was entertainment.

Pro wrestling was always fixed, at least since the 1920s. But there were some men who could flat out wrestle.
Not just fixed. It was choreographed. It’s “entertainment” on roids. Literally. And as a former wrestler, that statement is a little insulting.

Admittedly was not prepared for the joy by many on social media at his passing. But, he was a big part of my childhood and a favorite of mine when I was into WWF wrestling (I preferred NWA when I was a kid and living in the South; they wrestled in high school gyms) and I sort of didn't follow him much after. Someone noted he went in for surgery a few days ago and came out dead. RIP.

the clip above with Andre basically jumps up into Hogans arms for the body slam kind of makes your point
They were good actors. I remember the first time I saw a pro wrestling match, at the Spectrum. It was there that I realized it was all fake, you see it better live than on TV. I must have been 15 or so.

Yeah, pretty cool. As Bob Marella he finished 2nd in the 1959 NCAAs, wrestled for Ithaca College.
at the 1996 olympics we went to the Greco Roman finals. My son was just a few months old and I had him in this front facing carrier and as we walked in, the front row was all these old "Pro" wrestlers who in their youth had been competitive amateur and Greco Roman wrestlers. And this one guy I am blocking his name but he has this strange voice which I remembered from his wrestling days jumps up and starts goochy gooing my son and tickling his feet. And another says about my son "he has the best seat ion the house". And I remember standing there looking at these guys and its like many of the wrestlers of my youth.....

R.I.P. First rate entertainer. A bit after my time, but my younger cousins loved him.

Of course. But some of them were serious wrestlers. Bret Hart. Gorilla Monsoon finished 2nd in the NCAAs. Kurt Angle was an Olympic gold medal winner.
Too much time on my hands: Angle was born in Mt. Lebanon, was a two-time NCAA heavyweight champ from Clarion University, finished second once.

Can't form an opinion of this man. He had many twists and turns that I have trouble focusing where I may align.

All due respect, you have repeatedly posted at-first-glance innocuous statements that set a train wreck in motion. All due respect, in my opinion you should do your own dirty work, do your own research, and come to your own conclusions. I’m not going to take your bait.

Yes. I don’t dispute that. I’m not an idiot. But some of those guys were very skilled wrestlers. Hogan wasn’t one of them.
I’m not calling you an idiot. You are a good guy. My initial post was tongue in cheek. However, I have run into a few people along the way, my grandfather included, who think it is real.

I'm not sure if I like him.

It’s all good. Mathematicians suck at tongue-in-cheek, of this I was just today reminded.

Kayfabe for life. Respect.

I get a kick about all these heels who are good guys in real life. George Steele was a warm, friendly person, kind to everyone.

If you believe all of the interviews when they break kayfabe, Hogan is not always one that everybody liked. Sounds like he could be sneaky and passive aggressive and burned more than a few bridges in the business. to someone born in the early 80s like myself, he was iconic. What a bummer

Friend of mine lives on Tierra Verde and island off St Petersburg here in Florida. Said back in the late 90s Hulk Hogan, The Undertaker and Randy Macho Man Savage all lived on that tiny island. My friend said not many knew it and not many lived there. Its where they filmed Days of Thunder at the bar called Billy's. Said he used to hang out Friday and Saturday nights at the bar with them just drinking beers. Said all were very cool guys and laid back just wanted to hang and have a cold beer with friends at the bar.

Ric Flair was a good actor but I considered his pole-axed routine to be a little too theatrical. (Anyone who has seen Flair wrestle would know to what I am referring.)

I grew to be a good guy, nice to everyone. It helped allow people to forgive me for all the times I was an idiot. Good guy, an idiot, definitely not mutually exclusive.

Tierra Verde was probably really cool before all the condos. It's like the end of the world.

To me it's just on the way to Ft Desoto. I should check out Billy's sometime, I'm just always worn out from the beach and it's a long drive home.
