Sorry to hear of the passing of Jim Bragiel due to complications from corona virus. A true Wildcat through and through. For years, Jim sat underneath the basket on the west end of Welsh-Ryan. He played basketball at NU in the 50s and was an assistant coach for awhile in the 60s. He would often hold court before games and during halftimes at his seat and I was lucky to be included occasionally. RIP, Jim.

In the old WR, he sat in the first row, right? Between the bucket and the Cats bench?

Was that Mr. Bragiel?

I didn't know him at all, but he was great presence at games. You could tell even from afar that he was a rock solid fan. It seems that he was at every game until the last several years.

I loved to see the rare occasions when he would jump up, and bark at refs who were within a few feet of him with the same energy of almost any B10 coach.

In the old Welsh Ryan, I would occasionally sit behind Jim and his wife during non-con games (when they wanted to pack the lower bowl with fans for TV). Great guy and super NU royalty.

I bumped into him and his wife at a restaurant in Eagle River, Wisconsin a few years back. They were sitting next to a table of other NU folks, among them Jack Rudnay. And while they were all introducing themselves, I walked over to them wearing my NU cap and was about to chime in when Jim extends his hand, and says: "Hi, I'm Rich Falk." In kindred spirit, I shook hands and said, "Hi, I'm Larry Glass." Good times.

I remember Jim as a fine recruiter, positive influence, fine man, and huge Wildcat supporter. RIP. Prayers for the family and friends.
