Absolutely agree, what an icon. Had seen it all. I feared he wasn't doing well when we didn't hear anything from him lately, especially with everything going on lately. I know things still aren't where they should be but he had seen a lot from his days as coordinator of SNCC and an liaison/advisor to the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and SCLC to being on stage of President Obama's first inauguration. That was a hell of a bridge that he was able to span during his lifetime.

When you want to teach your children about heroes point to this man. When you give them an example of courage point to this man.

“When you see something that is not right, not just, not fair, you have a moral obligation to say something, to do something. Our children and their children will ask us ‘what did you do? what did you say?” - John Lewis

Seems like if we had enough time to remove my comment , we had enough time to put this on the off Topic board.

I wonder if the current day SJW's are fully aware of the sacrifices made by John Lewis and Dr King? RIP Mr. Lewis.

To think what he and Dr. King accomplished for racial justice and they didn't burn one police car or smash one storefront window.

I truly believe that they had so much success because every night on the news it made the others look bad when they would use everything they had to harass, intimidate, and honestly try to harm the protesters but they wouldn't respond and essentially took it. It made the aggressor/bully's look bad protesters inspirational.

Their cause was righteous, and just. Their non violent tactics were noble and peaceful. That's the difference between them and today's Socialist revolutionary anarchists who will burn everything down if they don't get to change "the system" to their way of thinking. [eyeroll]

Trump issued a White House proclamation shortly after 11 a.m. to lower American flags to half-staff nationwide “as a mark of respect for the memory and longstanding public service” of Lewis.

President Trump tweeted condolences for the late Rep. John Lewis and called him a "civil rights hero."
Saddened to hear the news of civil rights hero John Lewis passing. Melania and I send our prayers to he and his family

And both White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany and Vice President Mike Pence issued statements of condolences and tributes.

Trump was a lot more respectful of Lewis than Lewis was to Trump for sure.

He did do a lot for civil rights, and did so the right way from what I witnessed....peacefully. That I will give him even though I absolutely disagreed with him on almost everything else he stood for politically.

Politically his policies sucked and history proved that out. Baltimore is still a death zone in what was his neighborhood.

His heart was there for a long time. He got caught up in the swamp mentality...himself first attitude. Corruption runs amok in politics especially in the lifers. Term limits is what is needed...that will not happen until some more of the remaining fossil pass, or retire. The new generation looks to be heading down same path...give me the money because I'm a swampster.

You and Marco Rubio need to get your act together.

I think he just mis-typed "Baltimore" for "Atlanta" but I understand what @Dog Rescueer means. Funny...but no one who's idolizing Rep. Lewis today would want to live in his district. The folks trapped there are because they trusted him to make their lives better.

He didn't.

A glimpse into the reality of Life for many of John Lewis' constituents. This is his anthem for me.

Thanks John...we survived despite you!

#JohnLewis gushers forget that MLK was fighting racist DEMOCRATS in the South. Kennedy was about to solve it, [they] killed him and then creep Johnson passed the flimsy Civil Rights Act to take credit, fooling blacks into joining the Democrats who enslaved them all over again.

If you're a Liberal Black Democrat, you're not supposed to speak these words. It's tantamount to sacrilege! Blasphemy even against the "great Leviathan" welfare State. Truth here though is roughly a little over 50 years since Dr. King and John "po boy" Lewis righteously fought for inclusion of their skin into American culture, the culture of our skin has left us a decimated and forsaken minority.

"Other" Brown folks escaping the very poverty and control we're told to accept by American Socialists have replaced us as the "new power minority". They don't abort their young, they don't expect some White plantation owner to put them on a Welfare docket. Oh sure White Socialists are encouraging them to come here for free healthcare, and education. However they're already poor, and they break Laws coming here not to sign up for Welfare, but for simply a chance at Freedom...to work...to live an American dream.

Democrats like John Lewis have robbed Black American citizens they so called "represent" of that dream. They don't even vote to give those poor Black parents a chance to send their kids to a functioning school of their choice with a voucher...so deep is their control. Black folks running their own business inside their own neighborhoods with tax free earned income?

Nope...can't have that either so the John Lewis "sugar Daddys" vote against that too. They do vote to set up taxpayer funded abortion mills inside those very same neighborhoods, so innocent little Black babies conceived in Sin out of wedlock and unwanted can be systematically exterminated and their valuable body parts and organs harvested for sale.

Now the Lords of Leviathan have convinced their helpless Black parasites that the police are their enemy...that we should stop paying for their protection and leave maintaining Law and order up to roving gangs of criminals or thugs or "mental health counselors". Meantime, Black folks continue slaughtering each other (if not their own offspring) daily, burning down their own neighborhoods, and blaming Republicans or Donald Trump who simply asked them 4 years ago "what have you got to lose"? Now, after record low minority unemployment, higher wages, home ownership, business ownership, and some glimmers of hope from an emerging Black middle class, there is plenty to lose.

Matter of fact there is everything to lose if you're a poverty pimpin' Democrat like John Lewis was. He lived well, wore nice clothes...didn't even live in the Hell hole that was his district. However he and his race baiting Democrat cohorts expect those votes to stay in power, keeping their broken promises and watching their constituents wither on the vine.

That's what slavery does to you. It slowly drains the life out of you, kills your will to live, for self survival until you just give up and die. With no Freedom, life isn't worth living. Here's hoping from one Black man that John Lewis's death means a new and different future for his constituents. Maybe his death represents a new Life under a different type of leadership. One that emancipates instead of enslaves.

I'll take that leadership role for those beautiful Black people atl, will you help me?

You bet DJT...more help is on the way, I promise.
