Fox just released a documentary on his life on 12/25 that was already scheduled to be shown again 1/3 on streaming platforms. Hard to believe.

RIP John , I liked him used the telestrator a lot explaining plays. Good stories . He said one time a receiver told him, that the QB, probably Stabler, threw the ball too hard, John said i'll get a receiver who can catch a hard ball.

Totally defined the broadcasting booth over a couple decades. And a winner on the sideline. R.I.P., Coach.

Thought he was terrible as an announcer but great guy and best winning percentage as a coach ever.

RIP.

I think a number of folks thought he had already passed because it seemed he was totally out of the public eye for at least a decade if not more. Don’t know if he wasn’t well, or was just keeping a low profile.

Perhaps he’s being awarded a turkey leg in heaven right now.

His announcing style wasn't my cup of tea, but you could tell he loved the game and had a great heart. Sadly, I was also under the impression that he had already passed.

Why are the Media outlets saying he passed “unexpectedly”?

Did the jab do it?

The best tribute I heard was on ESPN (I didn't note who said it) but they we're doing a countdown of the greatest Madden moments and the analyst quipped (I paraphrase) this 'reads' like Forest Gump. 'Nuff said!

Always enjoyed the drumstick awards after the Thanksgiving games. Watching the cook come out of Johns bus with the tray.....

Did John ever lose his fear of flying? I just remember him traveling in his bus to all the events.

John Madden coached one of the greatest star studded football teams of all time. Both Coach Madden and that Oakland Raider team deserved more than one Super Bowl.

I once heard a phone message he left Tom Coughlin after a 10-6 Giants team came close to beating an undefeated Patriots team in 2007. I don’t remember the exact message but it was something like this “Coach, your football team played that game the way it was meant to be played”.

Rest In Peace John Madden.
