Very unfortunate. I always enjoyed his articles, and learned a great deal of PSU history, and PSU sports history, from his articles and whenever he was interviewed.

He once contacted me about something posted on the board on the former site, as he wanted to get in touch with the person who posted it (it was about some PSU sports memorabilia he owned). Alas, I didn't have contact info for the poster, and he/she never responded to my PMs, so I wasn't able to help Lou out in that quest.

I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to meet and spend some time with Mr. & Mrs. Prato on a few occasions (he insisted upon being called Lou). Wonderful people and passionate Penn Staters.

The quality of Lou’s that secretly impacted me most profoundly was how fiercely he defended Penn State at a time when such a thing was so unpopular that even the University itself could not be troubled to do so. I deeply admired that the fire of his love for Dear Old State simply could not be extinguished. May it continue to shine in the paradise of eternity.

I’m very sad about this as well. We’ve lost one of our very truest bluest Penn Staters in Lou Prato.

I met Lou briefly three times… once, years back when he was director of the All Sports Museum; again a few years ago, a then a final time in December at our playoff game against SMU. On each occasion I made a point of telling him how much I’d enjoyed his articles and books over the years. He and his wife made such a gracious and adorable elderly couple.

Godspeed, good sir 💙🤍💙🤍
