RIP Paul Hornung

I honestly thought he was already dead. Won the Heisman on a 2-8 Notre Dame team. The only person to ever win it on a team with a losing record.
Used to see the golden boy shuffling around downtown Louisville a few years back. Always had a smile on his face. Heck of an athlete. RIP Mr. Hornung.
I forget the name of the restaurant on Market but it had a overhang out front and an up and downstairs. Used to go there for lunch a lot and would see him all the time.
I had a brush-by encounter with Hornung ~ 30-35 years ago a sports bar in Henderson. He was with Sam Ball and other folks I didn’t recognize. We said hi to each other and shook hands.

Great football player and a Louisville-area legend. Lived a great life too from all accounts. That said, he should have never sniffed the Heisman trophy, but glad he did so it didn't go to a Vol. Ha!

I believe Howard Schnellenberger (Flaget '52) and Paul Hornung (Flaget '53) were teammates in HS. Bear Bryant recruited Hornung, but he chose Notre Dame instead. One decision. Imagine the possibilities. Sigh....
We aren't going to discuss him getting kicked out of the NFL for gambling on it are we?
