I know very little about basketball, but I can truly appreciate someone who could do so much with seemingly so little. I remember sitting in the bar/restaurant at the Orrington in Evanston (why I was there, that night, spring of my Sophomore year, I could not tell you) mesmerized and on the edge of my seat as Princeton nearly upset Georgetown in the 1st round of the NCAA tournament. Back door cuts, passing, motion, the Princeton offense was bewildering to me, but beautiful to watch. It seemed to befuddle Georgetown-nearly to the point of an enormous upset.
Naturally, we know the Princeton offense, as practiced by Coach Carmody. That era of NU basketball can be debated forever and a day.
Let us celebrate the pure genius, yes, I daresay genius, of Coach Carril. Here is to a life well done.
