1. Why in the hell are there so many of them? There are 10 Rite Aids, 7 Walgreens, and 4 CVS stores in Lexington alone. Not to mention all of the Kroger(s), Wal*Mart and Meijer(s) stores. How do the Walgreens of the world make money when there are so many
2. Which one is your favorite. I go with Walgreens because they are the closest and have cooler stuff on clearance, usually. I know if I go in there for a real necessity, I'm getting bent over by the price, though.
So many pharmacies, yet you always find yourself waiting in line. We are all sheep that have been conditioned to depend on pills to right our poor life choices. So, the fewer pharmacies, the longer the wait. Also, with new regs limiting how many schedule 2 and other addictive medications each pharmacy can hold, you can see the impending problems that creates, including the need for
more pharmacies, actually. While the controlled number of stocked meds is partially dependent on customer base, it's very hard to get re-evaluated and reclassified to hold more. So, if one pharmacy closes, it causes a shortage of those meds in one particular area- sometimes impacting an entire small town for months on end.
Walgreens can kiss my everlovin' ***. They have a habit of chewing employees up and spitting them out without concern. If you can't work for a good independent, Rite Aid and CVS seem to top the list of best chain employers. In my book, happier employers lead to happier/more satisfied customers. Also, most people fall into the comfort of familiarity with Walgreens, which normally makes them the busiest stores in any given area. This, combined with Walgreens' lack of concern for pharmacist to tech ratios, long hours, stacked shifts and hurried pace, lead to lots of mistakes by Walgreens pharmacies. Of course, if you don't work there, you'd never know this. You just show up one day and the pharmacist you'd grown to trust is no longer working there b/c they were forced to eat the blame of any random mistake which was caused by Walgreens' screwed up system and lack of compassion for their employees. Again, **** Walgreens and feed them fish heads.
