RJ’s treatment

I just watched the post-game press conf. and Zion (understandably) is glamorized and asked the first 6 questions. What happens next just boiled my damn blood. Finally someone speaks up with a question for RJ. “How excited were you to play tonight after the Carolina game performance so you could prove your game.” — The audacity... Are you kidding me? With Z out, We wouldn’t have even had a pulse of hope in the UNC game w/o him. The horrendously called foul trouble made him play a scared 2nd half as our ONLY scoring threat since Cam went miserably cold.

This kid has given us everything this year. He was wrongfully berated after Gonzaga. Posts a triple-double vs NC State and SportsCenter shortened the footage so we could watch Zion answer questions about LeBron noticing him. Last matchup against Syracuse was one of his best games with 30 points (near triple double) and clutch finishing of the game. ESPN’s recap begins mentioning Zion’s 35pt performance in the previous matchup, followed up saying Zion watched from the bench as RJ’s performance helped fill the void. In the first Carolina matchup he scored 13 of our final 18 points in the last 10 minutes that everyone else virtually gave up on. Scored 8 of our final 10 pts to hold and beat Virginia. The list of notable things is endless.

Zion deserves every ounce of attention he receives. He’s astronomically talented and it’s all 110% warranted. But when is RJ going to be RESPECTED alongside him? I know RJ is showered with praise by analysts during games but that’s about the extent. Maybe I’m nit-picking at things but that press conference just grinded my last gear.

Agreed BP. I didnt see the presser, since I dont watch because about 90% of those guys ask stupid questions like that, but RJ does so much. Even last night it seemed like he might have scored 10, then you look up and he has 20. He makes it look so easy and does it in 100 different ways. Thats why hes gonna be super special at the next level too.

He didn't seem to have his normal fire last night. And K sat him for a good while in the first half. I wondered if he was sick or something

And there is the basic truth. Playing beside Zion makes a great performance look above average. That’s what special talents do

The kid was 8-16 from the floor, 23 points and 6 rebounds, and some say he looked off? He’s playing beside Zion!
This kid is special.
He did everything he could while Zion was out. Without him, we would have lost every game.
Cam is the one that needs to do better.

Sadly, I think we'll appreciate him more next season when he's gone.

I love RJ. Hell I love everyone on the team. He plays hard and he scores so quietly when Zion is playing. I always believed Coach K gave RJ the ultimate green light. That’s why I don’t mind when he take shots at a high rate. That works for us. He’s a complete player

Well, if you saw RJ react to Zion right after the game and the smiles between the two you will realize there is no bad blood there. Those 2 are like brothers, the media sucks, when you stop paying attention to them in general your life will be much better for it, but nothing to see here.

If I were on the team I would be using EVERYTHING that is being said to fuel the fire.
  • RJ is playing too selfish
  • RJ is playing second fiddle
  • Zion is too fat
  • Zion only dunks
  • Zion should sit the rest out
  • Cam is in a slump
  • Cam's NBA stock is dropping
  • Jack is in a slump
  • AOC can't play defense
  • Marques is too slow
  • Marques is overrated
  • Marques will probably not be drafted
  • Tre can't shoot
  • Tre / RJ are great players, but make bad decisions
  • Burning Joey's redshirt was wrong.
I am pretty sure there is a lot more. Everyone is trying to pile on the Blue Devils. Hope they can use it as fuel.

This young team plays team ball better than I have seen in a long time and they enjoy each other. Weird season for sure, but still very fun.

So just for the record Blue Devils:
I heard the other team called all your moms "ugly" and your sisters "sleep around".

RJ would be the man on ANY OTHER TEAM, and I can totally understand your sentiments. Hes been AMAZING this year!

Here's how I look at it. If RJ played on another team, he'd easily be the best player on it. And, he'd probably be angry being second fiddle by the media because they would still be fawning over Zion. BUT, being on the same team with Zion, he sees every day that it's not just hype, Zion is superior in athleticism, explosiveness, style, and charisma. You can't get to angry about what you witness every day. RJ is great. Zion is great. I truly think RJ understands that.

Bottom line..RJ wants to win,he knows the odds increase immeasurably with Zion playing. There is no animosity or jealousy between the two,you can see that by how they interact with each other,Both bring great things to our team and we're damn lucky to have them.

RJ is a really good player. Zion is a phenom. I think everyone - including RJ - can see and understand that.

R.J. was really forced to take on a lot when Zion was out. Before the injury, we were able to watch as R.J. got himself more comfortable. Let's be honest....the ending of the Gonzaga game wasn't his best moment. He'd tell you that. But as K said, R.J. was out there trying to make winning plays. He learned from it. Playing within himself more.

R.J. is probably the second best freshmen Duke has ever had. He just happened to play with the best ever.

Zion is the best we have ever seen, a once in a lifetime player maybe. I can live with that and appearently so can RJ.

I’m with the consensus opinion that RJ is unphased and knows/respects that he’s paired with the best player college hoops has seen this century (IMO) — I don’t think it’s a low key Shaq and Kobe jealousy situation.

Just think he deserves undivided attention for a few performances this year and that hasn’t been granted.
