RJ Barrett breaking Duke scoring records

As we all know RJ set a new record last night for most points scored in a season by a freshman. MBIII had held that record. I just saw a post on Facebook about RJ also setting a second new record for most points scored in Cameron by any Duke player in a season last night. JJ Redick had held that record.

That’s awesome.

What’s even crazier, is If Zion wouldn’t have got injured and kept his average PPG, he would be breaking MB3’s record by the 1st or 2nd game of the ACC tournament.. so we would have 2 in the same year doing it.

And I doubt Zion being around would have taken many points away from RJ.

Based on his ppg average this season RJ could potentially add 200+ more points to his freshman scoring record if we play in all 10 of the games that we have the potential to play in this season. Also at the pace that he’s at then theoretically he would end up with 3600+ points over 4 years at Duke which would be around 900 more points than JJ scored at Duke. Obviously we all know that last part isn’t going to happen but I mentioned it just to show how crazy the pace is that RJ is scoring at this season.

Like any four year player, his scoring average would keep increasing too. He’d easily hit 4K pts.

If Zion’s first game back is the first game in the ACCT and he maintains his 21.6ppg average and Duke doesn’t lose then he would probably move into second on the freshman scoring list behind RJ after either the Sweet 16 or the Elite 8.

His ability to finish in the lane is uncanny. Get Zion back, and those two will take us a long way.

Kidddinggg. Good for RJ; maybe sucks for Bags that he doesn't get to keep that title long haha

RJ set another new record in the regular season finale. He now holds the ACC freshman scoring record. This is the third new record that he has set in the last few games. The records that he holds are:
1) Duke freshman scoring record
2) Record for most points scored in CIS in a single season (even though it wasn’t mentioned/acknowledged, technically if there’s a recognized record for it then he also holds the record for most points scored in CIS by a freshman)
3) ACC freshman scoring record

He also could potentially end up setting several new scoring records in both the ACC Tournament and the NCAA Tournament.
