Would be great to flip him, especially after losing Porcher.
There are a lot of recruits we are in on right now who would be great to get. This is one of them. Man I am both excited and nervous to see how this recruiting cycle plays out. Part of me thinks we are all going to be very pleasantly surprised. But another part of me thinks that we might just limp to the finish line. Let's hope it is the former!

Can we really flip him from Georgia? Would start from day 1, imo.

Beal is all over the place. Committed to ND last year and then decommitted a few months later (before the terrible season). Was linked to FSU but then committed to UGA.

IMO this guy would be day 1 starter and absolute stud. I'm ok with starting the more talented player, even if they are less experienced.

Man!!!! I really hope we get this kid! But in the back of my mind I'm hoping that the Peking virus that A.J Bush has doesn't rub off on him since they are both from the same HS!!! That would be bad, can't have any more of that in our program!

You really think JP is that naive? Laughing
Compared to a fan posting on a message board? Of course he is. What real world experience do you think Parrella has with kids? Definitely naive to waste his time trying to recruit a top talent who could help this program immediately. I guess he's too dumb to know you shouldn't even try to get players like that because a defeatist "why even bother" attitude is what leads you to success in this world. o_O

You lost me there!!! Lol My post wasn't a knock on Parrella but rather some individuals that post on here thinking the coaches have no brain.o_O

No flip. I like JP but I think he is learning the hard way that sometimes recruits will tell you what you want to hear. I'm of the opinion we won't get Beal.

with how big of a need def line is for this program and how important it is is general it absolutely boggles my mind that Riley would go out and hire a coach (former husker and pro aside) from a lowly division 2 school who has zero experience in division 1 coaching or recruiting

JP may very well eventually turn out to be a good hire but coaches should not be learning the ropes at Nebraska ... lazy hire IMO
no other programs even had JP on their radar

Doesn't matter. Beal can be viewed the same way. Left Norcross to go to IMG and then left IMG before the end of the semester to go back to Atlanta where he came from and is now enrolled at his third HS in less than 2 years.

Another thought on AJ is we gave a kid a chance who nobody was really recruiting. Didn't work out like everyone in the programmed hoped but that's life. I know AJ loved his teammates and the time he spent in Lincoln. God knows Danny tried with AJ. If AJ doesn't see that, hopefully he will one day. But the offensive scheme changed and things were never going to work out for him here with his skill set.

I can guarantee with Beal's skill set, that will never be a problem @ NU.

Should have never hired him IMO. Nothing against JP, but Riley is stuck with him no matter if he's great or if he sux. If Riley were to fire him he'd be literally crucified no matter what the circumstances. Just not worth it IMO.

There is a ton of intrigue in playing for a coach who spent over a decade in the NFL. JP will be a terrific coach, he probably just needs a couple seasons to polish his recruiting techniques. I believe Williams and Williams will rub off on him in that way. JP was a great hire IMO

I just think we need to wait til signing day before we judge Parrella's recruiting performance.

It's not just about how a person finishes. One can recognize ways to improve along the way. For example, when a kid from FL that has never visited commits you should probably continue to have your foot on the gas with other recruits. It's not like I'm suggesting JP sucks; just that he has some areas to improve. That's to be expected from a guy hitting the trail for the first time.

JP needs and deserves time. Especially when it comes to recruiting. He can support the recruiting process, but we are in dire need of recruiting leadership.

I don't want to sound negative or anything but I think there is a 0% chance we get this kid.... From what I read he is fully committed to Georgia but is taking all his visits and I think is doing an old Husker a favor. He trains with Eric Johnson (Former Blackshirt) in Atlanta and I believe if he does visit in January it will only be for the free trip. Parrella will have to sell him REALLY hard to get him to Nebraska in my opinion.

I like JP and like I said he may very well be an outstanding coach and recruiter. My main question is at Nebraska should we be hiring someone with a coaching and recruiting resume limited to 2 years of experience at a lower tier division 2 school??

If you look at conference stats for Northern Michigan they were near the bottom in rushing yards allowed, sacks, and TFL.

He just does not have enough experience to perform a proper evaluation of his abilities as it pertains to coaching and recruiting to be in the position he is in. He may very well kill it on the recruiting front as signing day approaches. Regardless, it was a gamble to hire him. One that hopefully pays off.

Agreed. He needs to be part of an overall recruiting team, but he is not a rainmaker himself. Not yet.
