On the flip side, I think people are overselling Grunk’s value in the portal. QBs are a dime a dozen there and I think it’s unlikely any team would sign him and guarantee him to start. He’d be more like Beau where a team would sign him and give him a shot to win the starting job (Beau didn’t win it) not be handed it. I agree that he would leave if Becht transferred here but I actually think he’d be better off staying because leaving isn’t necessarily any better.

I would gently suggest that QB’s might not a dime a dozen. It is why quarterbacks command so much NIL since the supply of QB’s who can truly elevate a program is quite limited. It’s the same reason why even marginally good QB’s are drafted so high in the NFL. There’s a very limited supply. The position requires so much in terms of athletic ability married to the mental side of the game that it’s tough finding kids who have nearly all of it.

RB’s would be more the position that one could classify as a dime a dozen. I fully admit I’m probably just looking at it from a different angle from you rather than a fundamental disagreement, but I just would not use that verbiage in regards to a QB’s market value in the portal.

This lacks logic
What top 10 win did Fernando Mendoza have before going to Indiana? He was a 500 QB that couldn't beat anyone with a pulse.
At Penn State, Becht would have a different level of talent around him. Not saying he'd be Mendoza

Becht would also be playing B10 teams with a different level of talent. The talent at PSU is not going to be PSU's top level of talent after we lost an entire recruiting class. The PSU class will then be replaced with ISU talent. PSU also is not going to have Cignetti. We are going to have the ISU staff that averaged 6.9 wins the last 10 years.

Do you think that two thirds of the Big 10 teams are much better than the Big 12? I surely don’t. The Big 10 was very top heavy this season; most of the other teams either were slightly above average or mediocre, and a few were plain bad. By the way, Becht was a qb of a Big 12 team that beat one of those Big 10 schools in 2024 and 2025.

None of that makes any sense--you're reaching because you know your prior comment made absolutely no sense
You want a list of other QBs that found more success when they went to a team with more talent?
You're making Cignetti to be something he's not--let's see if he can even beat Bama.
They average almost 7 wins at Iowa State which impressive if you have a basic understanding of football but alas.

You make Campbell into Cignetti and he is not. Campbell at ISU is Campbell.

Big Ten >>>>>>>>> Big XII
That doesn't alter that he'd likely have more success here just based on the talent around him. Will Howard was way better at Ohio State than Kansas State for starters. Already discussed Mendoza going from a weak ACC to the Big Ten. It's about the right guy.
Again I'd rather keep Grunk as I think 2026 is going to be mediocre but Becht does give us a better chance to make the playoff given our pathetic schedule

So the middle Big 10 teams like Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, Illinois and Northwestern are better than the middle Big 12 schools like ISU, Cincinnati, TCU, K-State and Houston? To me, they’re pretty similar. I agree that the upper echelon Big 10 teams are better than TTU, BYU and Utah, and the Big 10 also has teams like USC, Washington, Michigan and PSU that the Big 12 doesn’t. But it’s not as lopsided as some might think. And the lesser Big 12 teams like Baylor and Kansas might be better than the lesser Big 10 teams. The Big 10, IMO, was down this year in a major way.
