These numbers don't surprise me.

Most OL's and DL's are historically low rated for the most part, and there are more of them on these teams than anything. This years Rivals 250 has 59 linemen ranked 4 or 5's. Stats say (IIRC this was posted on here a while back?) only 10% will make the NFL.

If you just take all but the line, QB, RB, WR, TE, LB, DB's), the Pats are 3.15, if Brady were a 4.

The Hawks are 2.77, but one is too old (ala Brady). One was unranked out of the FCS. If we afford the "too old" a 4 as we did Brady, it becomes a 3.1

Becoming great (and recruiting) is not an exact science for sure.

UL, Boise St, Fresno St, and numerous others have done pretty well with "less" for a while. But it is going to be VERY hard to break the strangle hold pipeline that Bama, LSU, tOSU, and all the other "traditionals" have on the 4's and 5's.

We HAVE to do more with "less", and hope we get enough highly rated, and sleepers to keep climbing.

Seattle did.

Interesting how three of the four Seahawks DBs were 3 star.

It may have to do with different rates of development. After all, we are talking about 17 year olds.

3 stars, playing like 4/5 stars, but with the mouth of a no star NAIA player. Can't stand those loud mouth jerks!
