Rosman at Andrews

After an impressive win over Hayesville, the Rosman Tigers will travel to face a Wildcats' team that has beaten them the last 3 times that Rosman has visited the northeastern part of Cherokee County with Andrews winning 26-21 in 2013...

Most folks will say this is a trap game for the Tigers, since Robbinsville will be coming to Tigertown the following week, and those folks would be right...

Here's a brief history between the Tigers and Wildcats:

The first opponent from the current SMC that the Tigers played was Andrews way back in 1962 in Rosman's 3rd year of organized play....The Tigers lost that first meeting in dramatic fashion, dropping a wide-open HB pass on the game's final play in a 34-33 loss to the Wildcats....Trying to toughen-up his team against better competition, Coach Bill Cathy scheduled a regular season game with Andrews for the first time in 1964 with the Wildcats winning that one 39-13...Andrews would later claim the Region 4 title over Mars Hill 30-27 that same season...In 67', Rosman's season would once again end at the hands of the Wildcats in the playoffs as Andrews won 27-7...Later, Andrews would claim the only Western 1A Title that was ever awarded as the Wildcats beat Tryon 34-7 to claim the West, while Ayden would beat Liberty 20-14 in the East in the final year of divided 1A titles, until the state began awarding 2 1A titles in 2001...

It would be another 6 years before Rosman and Andrews would meet again, and this time it would be a SMC game in 1973 that would end in an 8-8 tie, which is the only tie between the two teams in this series....In 74', Andrews would shutout the Tigers(38-0) for the first time in another conference game...Rosman would leave the SMC after that 74' season to join the new Appalachian Conference in 1975 with members Cherokee, Tryon, Polk Central, Edneyville and NCSD....It would be 9 years before Rosman and Andrews would meet again on the gridiron with Rosman picking-up their first ever win and shutout of the Wildcats, beating the 83' SMC Champs on the road 21-0...The two teams would schedule non-conference games in 85' and 86' with Rosman winning both those games by 25-0 and 53-6 scores...In 89'-91', Andrews would shutout the Tigers twice in beating Rosman 3 times in 3 non-conference games between the two...In 92', the final non-conference game was played between the two teams with Rosman winning 37-14....

Beginning in 1993, Rosman rejoined the SMC, and the Tigers would record their first ever SMC victory over the Wildcats, beating Andrews 38-27....Andrews would bounce back in 94' to beat the Tigers 35-13 before Rosman would reel off 14 consecutive SMC victories between 1995-2008, before Andrews ended the streak in dramatic fashion with a 38-0 shutout of the Tigers in 2009, beginning a streak of 4 straight Wildcat victories that ended in Rosman in 2012 with a 43-26 SMC win by the Tigers....In 2013, Andrews would win at home 26-21 with the Tigers rallying to win last year in Rosman by the score of 27-18....

Andrews has beaten common opponents Brevard and Hayesville this season, and has beaten Rosman the last 3 times that the teams have played in Andrews, so this is not going to be an easy "W" for the Tigers this friday as many believe....

The two teams have met 35 times thru the years with Rosman holding a 21-13-1 edge in the All-Time series between the two teams...

In SMC play, Rosman holds a 17-6-1 advantage....

In playoffs meetings between the two, Andrews holds a 3-1 advantage....

For the Tigers to have a chance this friday, they will have to contain QB Taylor Parker and RB Dillon Ward in order to break the 3-game losing streak to the Wildcats in Andrews, and it's likely to be a Homecoming game too boot...

Needless to Say, Rosman needs to stay focused on one opponent at a time, and this week's focus needs to be solely on the Wildcats of Andrews....

Impressed with your tigers last year. They are a scary team, even banged up.

This may be one of if not the fastest team that Rosman's had since 1993, but a Coach would have to confirm that?...

Most of these Seniors had a tremendous amount of success in youth football, and have been together a long time, and they seem to enjoy playing with one another which as you know is vital, come conference and playoff time....

Andrews seniors also had very great success in youth football winning 3 championships and a couple of runner ups. The problem is when we have a special group come through we don't have the support from the up coming classes to add to a special group. Just the downside of a small school. It is what it is and has happened about every several years. One special team and no underclass man coming through to help. Safe travels for Rosman this Friday

Is this the group of seniors for the wildcats that got to play down? I think they won a few of those Championships playing down. Is that right? That might be the problem not the underclassmen.

BK. don't know what you mean playing down. 7th and 8th graders in Andrews has always played midgets if that is what your getting at. As long as their birth dates fell in the right time. As you often say, we don't have the numbers to do anything else. We are not like Graham County school. We are one small school and 9th graders are JV along with what few kids aged out of youth. By the way, it wasn't just one year this group won the championship. So good try of shooting another team down. I guess now I am learning why you are so disliked on here.

I agree smash mouth. I don't want to see rodman on a short week.

Wildcat I didn't mean to get u up in arms. Just asking. I could be wrong but I don't think all Andrews teams have done this. Just this group. But if I am wrong then I am sorry. I remember a lot of folks on here talking about it a few yes ago, so they might b wrong also. Only 12 football playing schools smaller than us in the whole state so u don't have to tell me about that.

We didn't even have a JV team that year. We only had 22 on the Midget team. I just don't care for someone that try's to take down someone else's accomplishments. We are Andrews and we play with what we have. Those kids deserved what they accomplished. I do have thick skin but we don't have the luxury of pulling up our best 8th graders and still have enough for a Midget team. Like I said, we didn't even have enough for a JV team anyway. You know as well as I do they have a age deadline. BK were ok. One question though. Are they any difference when a team holds back a 8th grader so they will excel in High School ? For example The year Odom and Perkins was held back ? Let's try to be fair on here. I support the SMC with everything I got but I get a little red when someone try's to get a dig in on my team. It's all good now. Carry on and good luck the rest of the season

Wildcat if you listen to BK then Robbinsville is the only program to ever win without any help or advantage from something else other than a good group of boys and solid coaching. Don't worry soon as Robbinsville loses it will be woe is me, everyone is against us and then the excuses will start flying again. To beat it all now he is trying to tear down Andrews. Lord forbid a good group of players comes through and wins every now and then other than Graham County. It can happen...

It's sad but true. I know a lot of you guys that have been on here for years like to pick at each other, and that's fine. I was on the youth board for all those years and our kids played within the rules and like I said didn't and wouldn't have enough for a JV team that last year of Midgets anyway. That group played together from Peewees on up. The kids cannot help where their birthday falls and that we don't always have enough for. JV team either. It's all good

U can hold a kid back in any grade before highschool. I don't recall rville ever having a 8th grader on midgets. Midgets is 6th and7th and jvs r 7th 8th and 9th.

Based on age not grade smart guy. Thanks for explaining the rules from Lala Land but here in the real world, I would take the word of someone on the board and probably a coach in the league over your's BK. Your track record for accuracy and facts are lacking to say the least. Leave the stuff like this too the people in the know such as people like Wildcat and your ol buddy Gal ;)

BK this is not true. My son has played against Lane Millsaps and that group every year. They did not move up either. I've got game film from those days. Lol. Ok. I feel like a kid arguing over whose right. Bk it's all good lets just keep it real. We at Andrews are no threat to anyone we just want to compete. Good luck to all the SMC . The best 1A conference in the State

Wasn't me a few years back. First I have ever heard of it to be honest. And I should be there this year as long as it is not pouring the rain or Murphy/Rosman aren't playing the same week. Wanna meet up and I'll buy you a pizza and a drink and we can make peace or you wanna thumb wrestle to determine who in fact is the most rabid preps poster haha

From the looks of the schedule, it looks like the final week will feature Swain and Robbinsville and Murphy/Rosman...where will the SMC crown be being decided?

So much for everybody being mad that the last week wouldn't decide the conference title any more with the new schedule...

I figured as much. And not saying you shouldn't be. Just think it's interesting that the title will probably come down to the last week this year anyway, even with the new schedule.

Just thought that I would let folks know that the game tonight is still very much in question, due to the shifting of the forecast of heavy precipitation to our area...Personally think that the team would be alright to travel over to Andrews tonight, but it's the trip home, and more importantly the kids' trip home when they get back to Rosman that is concerning....As most folks probably know, Rosman is Flood Prone in a lot of different areas around this part of Transylvania County, and we've already had over 8+ inches throughout the County over the last week with a projected 8-12 possible beginning late tonight, thru saturday and most of sunday....Seen lots of Floods in Rosman in my lifetime, and this is looking like this could be one of the worse?....

Tough decision for the Rosman AD in deciding whether or not to play the game as scheduled tonight!

Stay safe out there folks, and watch out for those mudslides and washed-out bridges this weekend...

Rick it looks like the heaviest rain is going to hold off until Saturday morning through Sunday hopefully they can get it in because Monday might be worse as far as road conditions go.

Yeah, it's a tough decision for the AD for sure....Agree that if the game can be played before the worst of the weather arrives, it should be played because Monday is problematic as you mentioned, and not just for the game itself, but also school may be out due to the flooding, and a trip to Andrews on monday or tuesday could also pose problems, depending on what happens between here and there?

I hope the team stays focused regardless of when the game is played...

BK stop making everyone over here look bad. Your posts aren't relevant and make no sense at all. 7th graders have the option to play midget or jv and 8 th graders can play midget if they want too if they fall into the age bracket. So dude just be quiet and not say anything if you don't know nothing about. This thread is for Andrews and Rosman if you can't talk about what you think for this game then go ramble on somewhere else

Not like it is piss pouring the rain or anything BK to the point of flooding. And I'm sure Walsh would never do anything like that even if that was the case. Even the other Robbinsville posters think you are a moron. Take their advice and **** up. You make your self sound like you are clueless and desperate for any excuse.

I understand the cancellation as far as the gate and all that, but as far as the shape of the field I'm kinda worried that it will be far worse shape Monday if all this rain hits. I don't think either team wants to play a mud bowl. Too many things can happen for either team

It's going to be rough for everyone. Game on Monday and Friday. Dang we got Rosman then Murphy and Swain the next week. Shoot, then Hayesville and Cherokee. No easy games for us. It is what it is but they are no time to heal those little nagging injuries when you play 2 games in a week
