Looking at the numbers this seems to be where we are at in terms of 2023 roster, new adds (HS + transfers) - less known exists (NFL, transfer or just on to life).

Here is where they will be in terms of scholarships before more departures

QB = 4
RB = 6
WR = 14
TE = 6
OL = 16
DL = 22
LB = 10
DB = 18
ST = 5

Total 101

I may have missed someone.

There once was a time when I could have nearly sorted through the roster in my head and come up with the numbers — and knew ALL the jersey numbers, etc.

No more. With 5+ decades of mileage on it now, the ol’ noggin acts more like a sieve than a sponge these days. lol

it is more complex now. I used the BWI starting scholarships from 2023 and then add the transfers and inbound HS players. Then remove the KNOWN departures which included announcements. I was surprised we were over the 85 by 16 now. that means a lot more departures are needed. Looking at the names it was not that easy to find 16 names you want to depart. That is assuming there are no new additions from transfer.

COVID year has added this problem as nobody changed the 85 for that.

Yes, you missed Carmello Taylor and forgot about Driver portaling.

That looks like a typical Franklin roster

Overweight on WR’s and DB’s

Underweight on OL (16) and DL (22) especially when you divide each by 5 positions

Pure Genius.

Not even close. It is at 96. Look at the top of the Lions Den forum for the Scholarship chart.

There are only 2 ST schollies right now, SS and Thompson. Also , depending where you put Mills, there is either 11 LB and 16 DB, or 10 Lb and 17 DB. The chart doesn't have Fleming listed yet, which would put it at 96.

I went through the roster site and saw 73 players returning (anyone silent would be returning) who I thought were on scholarship. this includes SH on FGs.

we have 25 incoming HS + 3 transfers.

the Zach guy on Locked On made the comment that full roster is preventing Penn State from being more active in the portal.

Fleming is the only one coming on a 'ship. The K from Tulsa and the LB/Edge from Wisky are walk ons.

Who are the 14 WRs? Are they ill? Have they changed positions?

Not sure who SH is , but out of the transfers in, Fleming is the only one on Scholie, Mayer and Meyer are not. You could be right about the tight roster, but I could see 12-14 guys having a reason to portal out to get more playing time, not because they don't like it here though. So, yes, roster space may be tight to pick up a lot of portals, especially since there were some unexpected guys coming back. Should have a better picture after BW, they may be sticking around just to get the degree from here. Don't have to be at 85 till fall practice starts.

Interesting list just seems distribution is a tad skewed....14 WR but never see more that six during games and according to some none can separate or catch....18 DB...does this include Safeties? 22 DL...must be all the incoming (6) and both DT and DE.

I won't pay for Lion's Den anymore since all i see there is arguing and snarky remark, complaining about number of posts, and having posts deleted for no reason and never answered. I realize i am not part of the "insider" group and okay with that....had a good 40+ years with Phil but he is gone also.

The roster will not be right until Lambert Smith gets processed to Old Dominion before the Blue White game, and 5 more go portalling after the spring game.

And for the Love of God, can we please abandon the whole concept of wearing the walk-on zero is an honor? The standard has to be, do we have 5 guys who can play with whoever is wearing 11 at the time.

Also we need Marcus the WRs coach to make his WRs participate in jump ball and back to back rebounding 1-on-1 the way Calipari teaches his kids to rebound. By August first, I want to know who won the 250 jump ball contest with Fleming v McClain, Omari v Wallace, and Saunders v Clifford. We have no speed, so its time these kids get fierce

The only announced departures are Cephas and Driver, so that would take the group to 10.
