He’s a good coach for UNC. Glad they extended his contract.

You can choose to read this any way you like.

Boy I'm glad he's staying! I thought for a moment my lucrative gig as Photoshop to the Stars (Roy & the boys) was about to go up in smoke faster than a PJ doobie. Thank goodness I won't have to beg DJ for one of those high paying moderator positions to keep me in the lifestyle I'm accustomed.

I just saw where a buddy of mine posted about this on Facebook and I said the same thing. Given his age and the issues that he’s had with Vertigo I just don’t see him coaching until 2028.

My guess is he doesn't coach that long, either. Schools do this sort of stuff as an advantage, as well. This gives potential recruits and boosters the idea that he's not going away anytime soon.

After I heard that Roy got an extension I just had to go over to THR to see what they were saying and the thread about Roy’a extension is pure comedy gold.

This is probably my favorite post in the thread on THR about Roy’s extension.

“In your face negative recruiters!

I’m optimistic and I see another extension after this one!

Love me some Roy, the Family is in good hands for the foreseeable future!”

Me too dirt. That gives us a possible 8 more years of his sticking his foot in his mouth. 8 more years of possible tragedys and castastrophe's. OFC

Makes recruiting easier. The mirage that he’ll be around that long makes OAD players think, “he’ll be around long enough to take my lottery projection entering into my freshman year and turn it into a four year career at UNCheaters, graduate without ever having to attend a class, and become the best player in
Kazakhstan after I graduate and get flushed out of the Developmental league.”

It's all about the ride, Sky, and Roy certainly makes it an interesting one.

And besides that, we all know that selfish *** K (as per THR...only cares about wins) won't allow Roy to hang around longer than him, so that means K will be around at least that long. Sounds like a win win to me.

I can understand why they gave him the extension (to emphasize the difference between K and him, since they probably tell recruits that K could leave any day). But no way they want a 75 year old Roy coaching their team. So it's really just a publicity ploy.

Also, how does Hubert take this, as a slap in the face as to his future as a UNX coach?

It's fun to pick on Ol Roy. But I can't blame them for trying to lock him up as long as possible. You guys are being very delusional if you don't think he's very good over there, and I despise them as much as anyone.

They are in the same boat we are in, that an old K, or old Roy, are better than any other option.

Yes and Hubert’s stupid a** laugh would get annoying really fast.

Hubert's the man I want to see running that program. I can'think help but remember him and Jay Bilas together at ESPN . Hubert setting there just letting everyone know he was a heel and Jay just telling it like it was. Jay got a lot of criticism because he wasn't pro Duke. That'said why I defended him the way a did. I didn't care to have a Davis or Len Elmore . And of course the Davis cackle. Just think the fun we can have with that? OFC

Oh please, please, please, please be Hubert for Roy's replacement!!! Would be almost as much fun as Roy, but probably not nearly as successful.

I don't think any reasonable Duke fan doesn't realize Roy is good...very, very good. His record speaks for itself.* That said I still love to watch the train wreck and to make fun of the stupid stuff he spouts.

* Even though I think it wouldn't quite be as terrific if it wasn't helped a little by all the cheatin' that's been going on there through the years.

I agree on his success as a coach. He's one of the best around. I do feel he did know the AFAM program was shady and he got his players out of taking the classes. He knew something was coming down. Despite he saying he didn't feel uncomfortable was going to be punished I do think he was worried but of course he was right and not even a slap on the hand. Where I did lose respect from him is he started whining about the investigation ruining his recruiting when he knew how dirty the program had been for 20 plus years. The unc getting cam johnson as a transfer who played right away in the same conference without a hardship like the kid who left Duke to be with his sick mom. For some reason I can't recall his name. Johnson has been a big part of unc's success the last Tcouple of years. To me it shows just how arrogant he is and how entitled he thinks he and unc are. What it really means is he's a tar heel fan. He can't help it. It's his nature. Bless his heart. OFC

Yeah, Roy knew, or if he didn't (highly unlikely), then he should have. Stuff like that can't go on that long and the head coach not know. Tar Heels are special, as we both know, Sky.

We all know Roy is a good coach, but it's always fun to get a jab in every now and then. Mac, I know you're a Duke fan, but some times I wonder with your comments about UNC.

Come on man. You know I'm a Duke fan, but you wonder sometimes with my comments. That's kind of talking out of both sides of your mouth, don't ya think?
It's funny that when a moderator, and I agree with his thinking, one time said I think some of our base is as bad as some of the other fan bases, yet no one says anything. I know why. He's a mod, plus he spoke the truth.
Yet some of our fans scoff at the Holes extending Roy for 8 more years. And you want to question what I say about unc? I wish Roy would retire, and I'm sorry if this upsets you, but he seems to have gotten a little better as he's gotten older.

The guy wears a sissy shade of blue, coaches the team I have grown up despising more than some of you can ever fathom. But, I think some of our fans are as bad as many of theirs.

Success has brought many Duke fans on board that have no clue what this rivalry has been like. We are spoiled that we have been getting the cream of the crop in talent for a while. I remember when they were the ones crowing about their talent compared to ours.

I didn’t mean it in a “Roy Sucks” way I meant it as 8 years is a long contract for someone that would be 77 at the end of it IMO if he’s still there that’s good for them though. Roy’s an old mountain boy too so I can’t be all that hard on him

I've never talked out of both sides of my mouth. I don't have the time to go back and find all of your posts. I could care less who coaches at UNC, I just think we all know Roy and K are great coaches. I just didn't think you needed to defend Ol Roy, that's all.
