Hopefully will help. Players can just fake injury before the ball is spotted, but it should cut down on the players looking to the sideline for a coach to tell them to go down.

It should, but will it? Playing devil's advocate, the coach just needs to send the injury signal in sooner.

Doesn't go far enough. The only solution is the simplest solution. Any player who is "injured" and requires a stoppage of play, regardless of when the "injury" occurs should have to sit out until there is a change of possession. This should be done for the safety of the players. It is dangerous to allow injured players to return to play after one play.

That's part of the rule.

That makes too much sense to be adopted by the rules committee

Outstanding idea.

The penalty for faking an injury should be an unsportsmanlike call or personal foul with 15 yards and a 1st down.

Those last 2 changes are stupid. What if more than 1 player is attempting to recover a loose ball. Simulating brandishing a weapon is a penalty?

I get wanting to eradicate the fake injury, and really coming down hard could do it. I just think implementation is the hard part. How do you know for certain its fake? Are injured players not going to let anyone know, thereby getting more injured?

I like the idea of sitting the player for the rest of the series. That can be sold as going more in the favor of player safety, while also punishing the act.

That's exactly what I wrote in my letter to Saban....

Sellers turns his ankle against BAMA when we're down in a late 4th quarter drive to try to take the lead.

He eventually pops up looking good to go only to be ushered the wood for the remainder of that drive.

Enter Doty.

You know this is what happens for us the minute your new rule goes into effect. :)

I played football in school. In middle school, playing running back, the ligaments in my left knee were snapped in the open field when I ran to the secondary. That was the most painful injury I ever had. Back in those days, they put my entire left leg in a cast for 6 weeks and on crutches for an additional 2 weeks. In high school, I made a tackle, got up and was light-headed going around like I was drunk, The coaches on the sideline saw that, and pulled me out of the game. I took my helmet off. Blood was running down my face. So, back in the day, there was no faking of injuries. Football is a tough sport. It's a shame that in some cases there is no honor.

You have to hope that doesn't happen.

Under the current rules; we are leading Bama late, Bama has no timeouts and is flying down the field needing a td to win, after every play, a Bama player fakes an injury before the ball is set for play and the clock is stopped and Bama gets time to get in a play, get aligned and ready to snap as soon as the whistle blows giving them ample time to score. The "injured" player simply has to sit out one play and come back in when the next "designated injury player" stops play.

Yep. I don't feel like we saw alot of this though last season unless I missed it? If a team appears to try it once, the fans are usually all over them and it usually stops.

I saw it in a lot of games the last few years. The opposing fans of the team faking injuries boos and cusses but the team doing it doesn't care. As long as it benefits a team and there is no real penalty, fake injuries will continue.
