Injury concerns on Gwath. UK wanted an incentive based NIL deal based on availability. SDSU offered the money up front regardless, UK didn't and he stayed at SDSU. Trying to avoid another Kerr situation where you get 7-10 games out of a player for a years worth of NIL?

Don't shoot the messenger. It's literally posted on the Gwath page from @Big_BlueNation twitter account

Pope and Co reportedly didn’t offer Magoon the full NIL package upfront due to injury concerns. It was going to be contingent on availability throughout the year. SD State REPORTEDLY gave it to him all up front. That’s the difference in today’s worldWe move on.

Mgbako is basically a scrub with good upside, 2-pointer conversion percentage way worse than Andrew Carr's and shorter, though thankfully beefier. And we are talking about maybe giving him more than Oscar ever got for a year here.

What do I know. Maybe it's worth it in this current environment. But if it is man I hope this current environment changes quick.

Funny if true when the San diego state coach played it like the guy was a saint who turned down huge money for his tiny little school.

Also according to this guy UK wouldn't give all the money upfront to Gwath and that's why he returned to San Diego State.
I’ve never really dived into nil stuff, but are most guys actually getting money upfront? I would think most would be getting payments over time, but I have no clue and this stuff is getting crazier by the day.

Look, this kid has an NBA body, and he is really talented. The question for him lies between his confidence with his jump shot and his heart/desire to play.

Too often at Indiana he was content with letting someone else have the moments. If he finds that killer motivation and plays with confidence, this could be a big get for UK or anyone.

I treat EVERYTHING that comes out about portal transfers and leans and who's leading AND how much NIL they are asking for or getting just like it's all and April Fools joke. 95% of it is click bait or overreaction from fans. The 5% that is true gets drowned out by the fake. Until a guy commits, then I actually believe it. Everything else is just noise.

But yeah, media and coaches gotta spin every player move as a strategic win for them. Player leaves, good he was a cancer, not a team player. Player stays, excellent work by our team to fend off the wolves but he was loyal and loved the program... All BS just packaged pretty.

That's interesting...I haven't seen anything about injury concerns with Gwath... what are the injury concerns?

The number I keep seeing is 1.2

Many on here are mixed but I would definitely take a chance on the guy

Were running out of options. Either guys didn't want us or we didn't like their fit (?), but in the end, the way I see it is that were about 1 for 50 on transfers. And 1mil isn't too bad of an asking price, even if i may or may not agree he's "worth it".

Have to build a team, and there's going to be some times where we overpay, oh well.

why would any team not put that clause in the NIL deal? or pay them more based on starts or availability. to the coach to play. It seems now you can make millions and fake injury.

Running out of options??? There's gonna be a lot of options to come. This ain't the type of dude you put some chips in on out of panic.

No clue, apparently that's illegal. Not familiar enough with NIL do's and dont's to say one way or the other. We didn't get paid to play in my day. lol

Why are they looking at this guy? Lendebourg and Hall would be the prize. Lendebourg the do it all guy and Hall a super efficient player that can score inside well. Then Alvaro and Bailey for the last two bigs.

Announcers on McDonald AA game stated last night that all the committed players were already on the payroll of the schools they are going to attend.

11 of the top20 are transfers are gone. and 21 of the top50 are gone (we grabbed one). It won't take long before that list dwindles. MgBako is 58th.. For me, I think yes, you try for fit as best you can.. but then you need to pivot and pivot fast.. and if a guy in the top60 wants to commit? You have to start thinking about taking him, so long as there isn't a glaring issue, and making it work later.

Not saying that has to be today.. but say a week passes and hes still on the board, and more guys are off it? Grab him. Grab him and put a note in for next year that we didn't do this right.

Pretty close to being the same player, statistically. Mgbako missed games with an ankle injury and Carr did with a back injury. Carr was not a star, but did win us a few games. I imagine we would say the same about Mgbako at the end of next season. Hate pulling from IU, but willing to say “okay, I trust you Mark” if Pope signs him.

Man, so much to respond to. . .

1. This dude's twitter has 151 followers and he claims to be "Independent Sports Journalist".
2. MgBako is a DUDE. He is athletic, fast and everything that most experts on Rupp's Rafters said we needed last year.
3. Pope and his staff are smarter than all of us.
4. Chill TF out. Maybe take a break from RR.

He's a typical Cal recruit. Great athlete but nothing else.

Disagree - he's not athletic and fast in the sense of a high-level D1 athlete. He moves quite stiffly / upright + not a great dribbler of the basketball. I watched a good bit of IU last year.

Him being a DUDE is based on his HS recruiting ranking, which was, in hindsight, well off.

I would dare say he's more athletic than Carr or Noah.
