He wouldn’t leave for IU. A more established brand like UNC, sure. IU is too far removed from being a power house for him to want to rebuild not just a program but a brand.
They had so many chance to hire good coaches in the past 20 years and failed... now there are a bunch of good coaches but IU isn't really an appealing job.
That said Beard is obsessed with bob knight and maybe that gets him there with a big check... would be a home run hire. I had Beard like 5 or 6 spots higher that Pope on my Uk coach search list.

If I’m a coach at an SEC school, I’m not leaving for ANY job in the rest of the country.

Bloomington is a cool college town and Nashville has become unbearable.
Nashville is getting the reputation for the worst traffic in the country. It is growing too fast.
I have friends that moved to Nashville 20 years ago and hate it now. Too damn crowded and expensive. Used to love going there....Now I avoid it like the plague. My friends come up to Ky more than we meet down there now. Used to be the opposite.
The Big Ten is every bit as strong as the SEC and Indiana would be a lot easier place to win at than Vanderbilt.
I’ve heard that the Board of trustees would not allow Barnhart to consider 3 coaches. Beard, Oats, and Pearl.
I fully disagree, plus the money at the SEC is better.
If they are down to Byington, Im guessing they have been getting quietly rejected by multiple parties for weeks.

I'm of the opinion we really need to sit down with Indiana and get this coaching change right because we gotta' play them again starting next year.

No way IU would ever hire Beard. Beard sentenced himself to minor schools for the rest of his career.
Doubt it. Someone is gonna hire him at some point and the stink will wear off when he’s kicking everyone’s behinds. Beard is a juggernaut in waiting

Beard is the easy choice for them. No idea how they can mess this up.
It will be interesting. If he's good enough (Final Four at Ole Miss as an example), and it's far enough removed, he will get a look. St. John's, a catholic university, hired a guy who paid for an abortion for a woman he cheated with and oversaw a program that had strippers perform for recruits. Anything is possible.
Oh someone will. Might take a couple more years. But someone will call him.
