I'm not sure if any of you were watching last night, but it was an uncomfortable scene after the final horn sounded when Kansas St. upset KU. Their fans stormed the court and it was a mess. The bigger issue here is the lack of security and organization on KSUs part.

In the past both K and Roy have been chided for wanting to get their kids out of harms way before the final horn has sounded. I've always agreed with them and feel this again proves my point. If you don't think players, coaches or managers can't get hurt or aren't in potential danger when this happens....well, then I don't know what would ever convince you.

Supposedly Bill Self was pinned up against the scorer's table and trapped from getting out, and an unruly KSU fan elbowed a KU player as he was walking off....deliberately or undeliberately, that's an issue, IMO.

I'm all for kids having fun, but last night was way overboard. Thankfully no one was hurt....but I'm afraid that's what it might take for these kinds of situations to come to an end.

Thoughts? Does the NCAA need to step in and put a stop to this practice?

I have always been a big opponent of the court storming. This just solidifies that opinion. It's dumb and dangerous. It's only a my yet of time before some idiot does some real damage. It puts the player and coaches my danger as well as the refs. If I am a player and I see someone coming at me and feel threatened, I'm going to defend myself as well. Which would lead to other bad things. It's just a bad situation that needs to be stopped before something really bad happens.

Agreed, I like the kids having fun. However these schools and conferences have to do a better job of taking care of the opposing players/coaches. If a random fan elbows a player and the player retaliates. Then it's the player and team that suffers the consequences. Not the fan.

Personally, I'm not an advocate for storming the court. I'm of the thought of act like you've been there before.

I've never personally blamed Roy, K or any other coach for protecting their players. If I were a coach, I'd do the same.

I guess there was KSU fan who threw an elbow at one of the Kansas players as well. Stuff like this needs to stop. I think it needs to start with the Coaches and players before the games. I understand celebrating a win but theres got to be a safer way.

I mean could you imagine what would happen if PJ Hairston would have been the one receiving an elbow from a fan?

Never liked this trend. It's just a matter of time before something much worse happens. Schools should set up post-game celebrations outside the arena after big games, much like Duke does with the post-UNC bonfire.

On a related note, I'm curious if Wisconsin will get all the ignorance and vitriol tonight at Maryland that they used to reserve for Duke. Without Duke on their schedule they have to find some other opponent to ensure they get to look like classless morons on national television, and it seems like Wisconsin might be filling that void.

There has to be a solution to the problem but I sure don't know what it is. I feel that the schools are well aware there is a problem and are seeking an answer. Should there big a large fine to the guilty school? I don't think that would work because those responsible would not have to pay it. More security? I don't think you could hire enough. Emotions pplay the biggest part and the only one that can control one's emotions is me and you. Winning with class even in an upset or big win is something that needs to be contagious and controlled by and instilled by tradition and pride. Players and coaching staffs safety are the post important. How it's done is going to be tough. Who has the answer? OFC

Saw it and while Bill didn't really at all look to be in any harm or danger, it could have gone to that level very easily. Remember when that moron in the wheelchair at NC state got knocked over?

It should end, we've just been lucky nobody has died yet. People HAVE been injured and hurt.

It should be as simple as this, if the home team's fans rush the court following a win, the win is forfeited. It would never happen again.

I saw Bill Self's post game presser and he was beyond pissed about the way that things were handled when KSU stormed the court which I don't blame him one bit.

If the fan was a highschool kid, PJ would've punch him in the face. If it was an adult, he would have flopped.

It depends on whether you want to stop court rushing or just keep it more controlled. I'm more for controlling it myself, but I agree something needs to be done one way or another. I'm not in favor of forfeiting games...that's punishing players for stupid fans. Also...as way out there as it seems it opens up the possibility of opposing fans trying to instigate a court rushing for just that reason...(those sly cheatin' Heels ) just sayin'.

Enough security can stop it...armed police (with nightsticks drawn circling the court) and people with high definition camcorders to get clear pictures of who is involved and then those people punished in a court of law (when caught) will go a long way. And also have armed security around the opposing teams bench to escort them off the court. It can be stopped. There are other ways also...just depends on how far colleges, and conferences want to go.

Here are a couple gifs of Vine video. The first shows the punk that slammed into the Kansas player. a still picture below is a close-up of him. They're looking for him now...hopefully they catch him.

The last gif shows a Kansas *assistant coach?) head locking a K-State fan after pulling him off someone. This video is pretty blurry but if you watch carefully you can follow it.

Both these incidents had the potential to get out of hand.

The punishment for that kid should be to enter the steel cage with the player he pushed. I'd pay to see it.

Heres the answer... the coaches and athletic directors at these stadiums around the country need to get unruly fans under control. They let fans push the limits of acceptable behavior during the game because they think its giving them home court advantage. Did Maryland ever stop a game to tell its fans, hey don't throw batteries or don't yell "F* You JJ" during a game? Absolutely not. Same thing probably went on at K State and goes on around the country. If you make fans aware during the game that they can cheer and be loud, but have to do it in an appropriate manner, then I don't think you get this kind of behavior at the end of a game during a court storming. If someone is cursing nonstop or yelling inappropriate things at a player, kick them out, and kick them out in a public manner.

I've been there when K stopped a game to tell the crazies to stop an inappropriate chant. Other coaches need to take some responsibility to prevent this behavior.

The Kansas players actually handled this very well, considering they were shoved, given a double birthday salute, and screamed at. Bill Self was actually pinned against the scorers' table, being shielded by the K-State coach.
I have never liked the Court storming, only because of the possibility of someone getting hurt. It's just a matter of time before it goes too far.
Go Duke!!

You can imagine what a crazed fan could do to a player if armed with a knife or piece of glass. I like Dirts camera idea but then the ACLU will sue the school for invasion of privacy. Storming the court or the field and its danger is nothing new but without using some type of policing or human shielding it will never stop. Maybe fining the offending fan bases school 500,000.00 might work or even reversing the win and loss.

Storming the court shouldn't be allowed ever. I have been at games when this has happened and if you are not part of the storming party it can be a scary thing to witness. I feel as if the risk is just too high for this to continue. And the K-State/Kansas game is just another instance of why this should not happen.

this is from the UK vs ark game last year. the kid with his fist clinched is trying to provoke a reaction. its stuff like this and the KState kid that makes court storming so terrible.
