I thought it might have just been our game, but I’m watching RU UI right now and they are booing the refs basically every other possession. I want to like that the RAC has become a tough place to play, but jeez the constant booing is over the top and kind of getting annoying. It’s good to have a tough home court and to boo bad calls, but you needn’t boo EVERY call.

Kind of reminds me of the Maryland home fans who I have grown to dislike. I would prefer to cheer for Rutgers as the underdog of sorts but this makes it tougher.

I was at the RU game and in person I thought they were pretty reasonable. I was wearing purple and faced neither animosity nor rudeness. They created a dominant home court advantage and came to life to help their team win the game. I argue about every call against the Cats and think all fans should.

There’s a reason they’re undefeated at home and instead of hate, we should emulate. Phillips should stop the unnecessary money grab per @lunker35 ’s thread, and do everything in his power to give our team an actual home court / field advantage.

How many of those supposed comparables have a private $11B dollar endowment and are charging undergraduates $75K a year; and yet are still desperate to squeeze every quarter until the eagle screams which thus results in depressed attendance?

Doesn’t the Big Ten provide something like $50M each year to every team now largely thanks to the B1G TV deals? And weren’t the stadium and basketball court built with private funds? Why does Jim P not place a premium on rewarding actual fans and building a fanbase instead of making it easy opposing B1G teams to dominate our home games?

These policies appear to have changed things for the worse for the most loyal fans. Our players bust their asses and deserve at least an attempt at a home court advantage.

If Northwestern fans booing every call would win a few more games, I'm all for it. It sure beats having the guy behind you telling you to sit down.

I didn’t say they were annoying people. I’ve been out there to watch 3 b-ball games and one football game now and I generally found them to be welcoming and respectful. I agree they have a very strong home court advantage in basketball this season. It’s honestly just the constant booing in b-ball games that was the only negative. And to be fair, in the second half of their win over Illinois it wasn’t that bad after I posted that comment.

They are definitely not as bad as Maryland fans.

i sat in the Wilson Club for one game this year thanks to the generosity of a fellow board member. I was hammering the ref’s on blatantly missed calls and doing my best at getting under the skin of a few opposition players. Needless to say, I was clearly out of place and was getting the hairy eyeball from a few NU Wilson Club members. I think they have their Club so that they don’t sit by people like me.

Better question is how many of those have half their seats unoccupied

Sort of like me. Nobody else wants to sit near you either.
