Right now Rutgers is up 40-15 over Minny.

If this continues and Minny loses Wednesday, does Pitino get bounced? (Yes, I realize he has a decent class coming in)

Doubtful. I think he will be given a chance to get a team full of his recruits. And they must respect that unlike his father he has tried to impose some discipline on his team.

Pitino will be back for several reasons. There is only an acting AD who is very unlikely to make a change. A new AD will not be named in the near future and so it is unlikely Pitino is fired late in the off season. He has a top recruiting class coming in next year and those players may opt out if Pitino is let go. The Gophers beat #6 Maryland and played most of the teams they played since Jan. 1st very tough(NU being the exception). He cannot be held responsible for the sex tape fiasco; that has yet to be sorted out and the players involved are solely responsible. Finally he has a very expensive buy out. If Pitino and the Gophers do not make a major improvement next year he will likely be gone.

The famous VERY reliable source told a good friend of mine that Minny's locker room atmosphere is absolutely miserable.

Imagine my surprise when my friend was told one of Pintino's key traits is that everything is someone else's fault. And he makes sure the team and his assistants know it.

I was told "we" left his vocabulary quite earlier this season.

His press conferences say otherwise as does the efforts of his team outside of today. When you lose 4 of your top 5 players in one week it is de-moralizing to say the least. I am sure the players just want the season to end as do the fans.I think it would be difficult to imagine a more snake bit team. Hearsay is also notoriously embellished I might add. That said he will be gone if the team does not make a huge jump next year.

Pay no attention to us over here at Northwestern on the subject of firing basketball coaches. At “win or else” NU we are so used to pulling the trigger quickly on any guy whose team struggles to dominate that we expect other schools to follow suit. We need to realize that other fans and ADs are not as bloodthirsty. That said, if the Gophers aren’t winning consistently in, oh, say 14 years, their coach will probably become the scapegoat, too.

Note: Palindromic post # 7227. (Another 110 to the next milestone)
