I was on the NU athletics directory page, and I noticed that Ryan Humphrey is on staff as the director of player development for basketball. Is this the same role that Chris Quinn previously filled at NU? What does this person do? Does the fact that he had a brief NBA career and a long overseas career help with recruiting? Should I care? When did he get hired?

I'd appreciate any and all answers.

This will be his 3rd season with the team. He was brought on after Chris Quinn left for the NBA.
Generally, this position helps with video evaluation, developing practice schedules, and being a bit of a liaison with academics and the community.
It's kind of like an entry level coaching position. From what I understand, he's a great guy to have around the program.

Sure as heck doesn't hurt recruiting when prospects visit Evnston.

If Martin Ingelsby gets the Delaware job, and he's a finalist, it would not surprise me if Mike Brey asks Humphrey to join his staff.

Well, you called that as he just accepted the ND assistant job. ND may grab Chris Quinn too as they lost 2 assistants this week.

It's an entry level kind of position, so I doubt anybody will be in it for longer than a few years. I'm sure Chris Collins is pretty well connected, and will find another good person for this role.
