He's on the Warriors G League team and hit 3's all over the place (43%) and has impressed Coach Steve Kerr, "Ryan really caught fire today, it was fun to see." It was not fun to see his one year with the Cats. Clearly he has the talent--what went so wrong?

It's hard to transfer to a new team, learn a new system, play at a higher level of competition, go to school and be at a level of comfort. Several articles have been posted here about how few grad transfers ever live up to the hype. We see it on the football side also.

Not a good fit for a team that did not draw double teams anywhere on the court. Not a shot creator. Great spot shooter.

Had he transferred to a program with players drawing a lot of help defense, he would have been a stud.

And yet if he makes one of those last-second threes he missed early in that season ... who knows how things go?

You could see what a beautiful shot he had. Just didn’t seem to get used to the big ten close outs with bigger players. Maybe in G league he’s getting a bit more space on his shots? Or we just got unlucky with him never getting in rhythm.

So true. If he hits that shot against Michigan I think his career arc at Northwestern is different.
Yeah. I think it was all confidence. He had plenty of wide open shots. He started slow and couldn't work himself out of it. I thought for sure he would at least have a couple of games where he was on fire. It never happened. He just missed a lot more 3's than he had in his prior couple of seasons. Some shooters just have bad years, too, even in the pro's.

Yes and no. Sure plenty of them don't work out, but a fair number do work out too. Just this year (granted it's early), in games I've watched over the last couple weeks I've seen decent contributions from the Hauser brothers at MSU / UVa, Olivier Sarr at Kentucky, DJ Carton at Marquette, Andrew Nembhard from Florida to Gonzaga. It seems like a reasonable portion of the top teams have added some talent via the transfer portal, and in many cases early contributions are promising.

I agree with those that were saying the Ryan Taylor just got into a shooting funk here and lost his momentum, and also that the lack of 1 on 1 creators on our team last year limited his ability to get open 3's as an off-ball spot up shooter. Too bad for him - wasn't an ideal situation for us last year, and in a conference full of tough defenses.

He was asked to do more than he probably can at a high level, which is 3-point shooting.
