The U.S. Ryder Cup team is halfway set, the top six automatic qualifiers having been determined Sunday.

Now, captain Zach Johnson has the difficult task of selecting the final six members of the team that will compete against Europe in Italy next month.

Scottie Scheffler, Wyndham Clark, Jupiter's Patrick Cantlay, Brian Harman, Max Homa and Xander Schauffele finished in the top six of the Ryder Cup standings, guaranteeing them a spot. Johnson, with input from his vice-captains and those six automatic qualifiers, will announce the remaining six players on Aug. 29.

Zach is a *****...totally bailed w/ his Koepka pick, and played the good old boy card with Thomas, who was as deserving as Ty Tryon. Glover and Bradley need to tell Zach to get f'd.

Cam Young not getting picked was an eye opener to me… especially after Couples said he was on the team.

Can't quibble with any pick except for Thomas, who had a terrible year

Burns and Spieth were 50/50, imo....and neither deserved to be ahead of Bradley. Glover was the wild card. But anyone deserved it over JT.

Koepka was the weak, cheap pick, as Zach dismissed the fact he is not a tour player.

Glover and Bradley should have been picked ahead of Thomas and Burns. What a joke. Turning into a popularity contest.

Thomas is 16-5-3 in Match play in these competitions. How many times did we see an off form Ian Poulter cut our hearts out? Thomas is that type of player in Ryder and presidents cups.

I hate this explanation....different opponents, different courses, and he was playing a helluva lot better in the past than now. That's like saying Aaron Judge hit 62 home runs in 2022, so he deserves to be on the All-Star team in 2026.

And if Thomas was "that type of player" then perhaps he needed to become "that type of player" for this season.

It's been that way with the past few generations of US Captains and Assistants (minus a few who actually won).
It is a popularity contest in a way. Part of the consideration when choosing the alternates is who will get along and pair well with the team. In some case, ability or at least how they are currently playing (Brooks) is more important than how well they get along with other. In other cases, how they mesh with the team (Thomas) is more important than how they are currently playing. We have seen many cases where someone not playing well before hand is picked for the Ryder Cup and they come out on fire simply because they mesh well with who they are paired with. I think Thomas may fit that bill. I'm guessing he gets paired with Spieth as they always seem to play well together.

Part of me wanted to see Bryson chosen so they could pair him with Brooks just to see what would happen there. They either beat their opponents 8 and 7 or they are throwing haymakers at each other by the time they get to the 10th tee.

Again, how many times has Ian Poulter come into a Ryder Cup on form? And how many times did he kill us because that's exactly his type of arena? Thomas is the same way.

The more I look at it, the more I actually like our chances. Most of the head-cases are gone minus spieth, and even out of that group (spieth, Bryson, reed, Keegan, bubba, DJ) he may be the one you’d want most. Burns/Clark/Harman/JT better all come to play though.

Lot of truth in what he says. Felt like Bradley deserved to be picked instead of Thomas.

Don't feel bad for Glover. Had a really really hot streak at the end of the year, which was the feel good story of 2023, but he also failed to qualify for any of the majors. Sort of hard to pick a guy for the Ryder Cup who did not play in any major tournament nor had ever played for a Ryder Cup team (at least that I can remember)

Clueless. Rory should worry about his **** game from 120 yards and in.

He's 4th on tour from 100-125; and was second in scoring avg for the year. 2 wins, 2 seconds, and 13 top ten's.

His last 7 tournaments....4-4-3-6-1-7-2

He sucks.

According to you 4th isn't very good. In the reds thread, you said Elly De La Cruz isn't a ROY favorite even though he has the 4th best odds. Using that same logic, Rory does suck in short yardage situations.

Admittedly I don’t follow the personalities but is Speith considered a head case? Seems very well spoken and low key?

On a very minor local note, Straka becomes the first player that played at the Barbasol at Champions to play in a Ryder Cup, sort of thought Glover would make it two, but fully understand why Johnson did not pick him.

To add on that.....4 former Ryder Cuppers won the Senior tourney in Lex....January, Brewer, Littler, Elder.
