I had to do the same thing with my father in 2019. He was on dialysis for 15 years and all of a sudden the dementia somehow got worse than it already was. He flipped out twice when on it saying they were trying to kill him. Also thought he had a second woman living in the house with him. He literally thought my mother was 2 separate people and he really hated one of them so he couldn't live with her alone anymore. We could have possibly put him in a home to stop him from that but had no answer for flipping out at dialysis. Moved him to hospice on the Friday before Labor Day and he passed on Labor Day.

My dad was diagnosed with dementia about a year ago. Within the past couple of months, he has gotten confused as to who my mom was and thought another woman was living in the house. He hasn't gotten violent with it yet, but it's scary ****. I live about 10 hours away so don't see them as often as I would like, but able to get down about every 6 weeks. Last time I was down, my mom walked out of the room and he asked me who that woman was because it wasn't his wife. Hit me right in the gut.

I feel your pain, I really do. I would love to tell you that it's going to get better but I would be lying. If they have any pets, you may want to tell your mom to watch that to. Our dog started shying away from him the last few weeks. When dad passed, I moved in with my mom and took over his room. The dog peed in my room like 5 times before he stopped. It took a few months before he would even come in my room when I was in it.

I agree with Glennnn. It's terrible. Watched my grandmother go through it. My mom tells the story of when during the funeral that my dad didn't so any signs of grief or sadness. He told her that it had been a long time since his own mother couldn't recognize him. To him, his mother died many years ago and the entire family had been grieving for years. He was just happy that it's over.
