Sam's biggest problem is that he can't stay healthy. If he could have stayed healthy and didn't start his career with the Rams things might have been different for him. Great QB while he was at OU. I really hope that he can finally have a season where he is healthy and has a good offensive line.

Man, some of these guaranteed contracts these QBs are getting - Cousins, Keenum, Brees, etc. - are crazy! And when an often-injured Sam Bradford can get $15M for one year, that tells me the owners and the league are making insane money!

Yes it is insane what these people are paying sports figures to play a game. It just
doesn't make any sense. That's why i'm strictly a college sports fan. I don't give
a damn about pro sports of any kind. Oh I keep track of OU players in every sport,
but only to see how they're competing. Whether they win or lose don't mean jack
s h i t to me.

You're right. I was just looking at $ numbers to get a guess what these teams are making.

In 2016, the average number of commercials during an NFL game was 70.
In 2016, the average cost of a MNF ad was $385,000. They can't all be MNF, but let's assume they are, since I've got the data.

That means the networks are pulling in $27M per game. Let's say half goes to the NFL, so $13.5M. Then let's say each team gets an even cut or $6.25M per game.

$6.25 * 16 = $100M to each team for TV money
add in ticket sales at say $150/seat average for 60,000 seats = $9M/game * 8 home games = $72M

That's $172M per year before any revenues from merchandise and concessions.

Guess what the 2018 salary cap is. $177M

These guys are still rolling in the dough.

Would you rather have the owners keeping that money or give it to the players?

How about movie stars making $15-20 million to act in a movie?

Well, the best situation for the economy is to make sure the players that are going to blow it on "dumb" things earn the lion's share of the money, so that it can filter its way back into distribution. :)

Feel sorry for the players that end up bankrupt but also appreciate their sacrifice to their country. LoL

JCon, you just amaze me with all the data. Truly, you are today’s hip Wally Cox without the nerdy ****. Keep it going, man.

Sam has had a tough road as a pro. His first 4 seasons he had 3 different OC’s, his best and only true even viable #1 or #2 wr options hurt and then his OL went to the crapper when they finally got more than one viable WR option. Then injuries started plaguing him. When he’s been healthy with at least more than 1 offensive option, he’s been more than solid.

The current NFL deal is worth more than $7 billion annually. Each team makes more than $200 million from TV alone.

That's assuming the "non-profit" NFL organization takes none of the money. Roger Goodell alone makes $34M. There is a large number of support staff surrounding an NFL team besides the players and coaches. The point was to compare the possible profits versus the salary cap to understand whether or not it's feasible to "waste" money on players such as tossing $15M to Bradford whom hasn't amounted to much as a professional player.

I know. I wasn't posting that to correct you. Just posting since the info was available.

I have no idea why anyone would invest $10 million guaranteed and another $10 million in potential in Bradford for 2 years regardless of how much profit a team is making. You'd be better off signing someone who isn't as talented of a passer that can last more than a couple of games.
