We were playing Minnesota at home last game of the year. They were a really good team and we got up big early ..something like 25-3....they chipped away and the game was close. The crowd was chanting NIT at Minnesota. My fraternity bro Mark Sibley aka the dribbler, hit some key shots and free throws to ice the game. We only had 3 BT wins that year but that was one of the best games to watch while I was there. Seemed so similar to Saturday

I remember that game vividly. Minnesota was ranked 4th and needed the win to finish the season tied with Indiana for conference title. Sibley scored 36. The Minnesota team had Brewer and Winfield, and went to the NIT. They finished the year in the top ten in both the AP and UPI polls.

Sibley is a little bit of a forgotten star, playing briefly with Portland after being drafted but cut by the Bulls.

The fact that the 4th ranked team going into the last day of the regular season did not make the NCAA field shows how much the world has changed in a little less than 50 years.

Sibley fouled out four guys trying to guard him in that game which I called on radio. NU had been routed up in Minneapolis about a month earlier in a game I also broadcast. Brad Snyder's last game as coach, I believe.

I was high school then and was at that game and remember it well. We all stormed the court after the big win. Grabbed the warm ups of Randy Jackson and had them for years!

It was Snyder’s last game. I think Bryan Ashbaugh also had one of his best games that day.
