Havent paid much attention since the reg season ended. I knew we had a lot of transfers but the key transfer. That is tragic imo. Hometown boy bolts because coach can’t build a team that knows how to run a normal offense. This is why stoops never took the next step toward success. Never could run an offense that can sling the ball as well as they run it. I know it was announced on Christmas Eve about key but the season is soon and it went under the radar for a lot of people. What happened? Did we not pay the man?

it didn't "go under the radar" for anyone paying the least bit of attention. What an odd post at an odd time.

I promise you the average fan who doesn’t post on this site, goes to work, celebrates Christmas (because he announced on Christmas Eve) alot of fans missed it. I think it’s worth highlighting going into the season. Where is the original thread on it?

Darrell Bird from the Catspause was on the Leach show this week and his parting comment was something to the affect . . . "I love the WR room and think its addition from subtraction there this year". That sums up my thoughts completely. I am not one bit worried about losing Key and Brown and think we have more than ample replacements. Maclin will have a breakout year with a bunch of others with experience poised to the same (Gilmore, Farrier, Stellato, Law, Cozart). And I love a few of our freshamn especiall DJ Miller.

Talented young man but horrible discipline on the field. Wish he’d stayed and corrected that.

Discipline problems seem to be a recurring theme for Stoops' teams.
But more recently than before it seems , teams lately haven’t had those leaders. Guys who would stop the bs behavior. The should have been leaders were the issue.

I remember a few quotes from players who transferred in how lax it was. Instead at being at position meeting they’d be out at a bar.

One of the main problems went up 64!

Key has talent, no doubt; but he’s also a head case. That said I was sorry to see him leave…. Barion Brown not so much.
Hmm. I had the impression Dane was a total team guy. Polite and a gentleman not to mention a good player. Never missed any games.

I just thought he wants to try and go pro( like his bro)and went to a place that will highlight a wr with an experienced qb.
What did I miss that indicates a head case?

You can't name a team in all of college FB that never had discipline issues. Your just wanting to trash Stoops personally.
Nope, I don't want to trash him personally but professionally, yes. Kentucky has never had discipline issues like what they have had under Stoops. The STUPID unsportsmanlike penalties that they regularly get is inexcusable. Go back to Claiborne and none of the coaches had discipline problems like Kentucky has now, and I'm just talking on the field stuff. Just because he's the all-time wins leader at Kentucky (such as it is) doesn't give him a pass for this stuff we've seen lately.

does brown think he’s going to be an NFL player? the rule change didnt bring back KO returns the way some people thought it would and that’s the only value he provides—although i guess his RAC policy of heading straight for the sidelines can be useful in 2:00 offense

Pretty sure some of our locker room issues last year came from the WR group. Gonna miss Brown on special teams but that’s about it for me, Key was our best receiver but didn’t have the discipline to stop jawing on the field and just do his job. Both guys took a lot of plays off, that’s on the staff to keep allowing it but that attitude can hurt a team. We had lots of issues but nothing will destroy a team faster than locker room discord.

I mean, maybe if you never watched the local news or read a newspaper or paid any attention at all to sports outside of when the game's on...

Kind of. I had a pretty big surgery and some other things. Football is about to start and that stood out to me as a major issue. Was it money? Key it seems wouldve got paid in Lexington

Hope the surgery went well and things are better now.

I would say there were a few factors involved with Dane leaving. I think the biggest would be that he has one year of eligibility left to showcase himself for the NFL. After this last season I imagine he didn't feel confident that Kentucky was the best place or maybe even a good place to make that happen. I'm not saying Nebraska is but he has a 5 Star QB and his WR Coach from Kentucky went there as well. They also have a OC that is a former Head Coach at two power conference schools and is a discipline of Hal Mumme/Mike Leach.

While at Kentucky Dane had a different WR Coach and OC each year.

I also think Kentucky was ready for and needed some turnover. The team culture at the end of last year was horrible and they were the most undisciplined team I think I have ever seen. Part of that is on the coaches but much of it is on the players, including Key. I don’t think Dane is a bad kid, quite the opposite, but I just don't think his focus and determination was always there. Also being joined at the hip with Barrion gave strength in numbers and I think they didn't take things as serious as they should have. I think the team was fine with moving on from that. Darrell Bird and Jeff Piecoro have both said on the radio recently that the WR Room this season is addition by subtraction.

I just think it was best for all parties involved to part ways. That's one man's opinion.

BTW - Wait till you hear about Hardley Gilmore 😅
