Any word form the NFHS Network HS realignment meeting today? All sorts of HS trying to get classified lower than their attendance dictates. I don't understand why they do this each year. James Island wants to be classified at 4A even though they are the 13th largest school in the state. I honestly hope they do so I don't have to see them continue to recruit the best baseball players in the area.

2 were approved. I believe 13 denied. Others to be decided tomorrow.

Which 2 were approved?
I believe it was Central and a small science school in chucktown.

I'm not sure what they're appealing? I thought the numbers dictated where they are placed, unless they are contesting the enrollment. Glad to see Gray lost their appeal.

Indian Land was allowed to move back to 4-A.
Why would they want to do that? So, they avoid Northwestern (Rock Hill), but you pick up South Pointe (Rock Hill) who is usually the better sports program overall. Hard to see the advantage if you are familiar with the landscape in that area.

Mostly about football but not all about football.

I'd have to check respective enrollments, but as reluctant as the SCHSL is to grant appeals, I would doubt that the move was unjustifiable by reason of school size.

Throwing out cheating accusations usually comes from the people losing. They have faced a ton of backlash, but until someone comes out with hard facts it feels like sour grapes. And this goes across multiple sports.

What’s wrong with Gray?
Schools such as Gray often recruit, which increases the talent above and beyond a school of comparable enrollment which does not recruit. And thus, state associations such as the SCHSL will often place a school like Gray in a higher classification than their enrollment would otherwise dictate.

I wonder if that is what Gray is contesting.

I spent 9 years coaching HS football in this state. If you think all schools don’t recruit, especially the big powerful ones, you are sorely mistaken. Secondly, I understand the multiplier, my son attends Mountain View prep in Spartanburg. I can assure you he wasn’t recruited. More than likely he gave up a starting spot for both ms football and baseball to attend the school, solely based on the ability to earn 60 college credits upon graduation and smaller class sizes. Much like I made a poor assumption about ViennaCock, many folks do the same with charter schools

60 credit hours. Wow! Pretty sweet deal. I'm not familiar with mountain view prep. This is a public school?

Apparently, the SCHSL applies to multiplier to transfers seeking academic opportunities too.

Two years of college credit while attending high school is a huge incentive - very worthwhile.

I hope you South Florence folks realize how fortunate you have been to have Coach Drew Marlowe. The on the field accomplishments are a small part of his impact on the young men he has coached.

Gotcha. I'm behind on my driving out that way when I go through Florence. Is the old high school still used for anything?
We played at West Florence last season. Their lock room and gymnasium feels like a dungeon. Throw in the yellow...

My least favorite gymnasium to visit.

Do many fans attend high school football these days, I mean, compared to say 25 years ago? I guess since the population in SC has grown tremendously so it should be a lot more, but as I have driven by several stadiums in the past few years, the stands are looking pretty bare.

I didn't grow up in SC but when I was in high school, games were social events for students. Baseball, basketball and football were packed with students.

I go to a ton of high school games. Lots of students at football, none at baseball and only a small section at basketball. I guess there are better things to do for these kids.

Was your high school on Howe Springs Rd, or in town on Dargan St? Send me the address, I'd like to check it out.
