My wife and I will be attending the Nebraska match on the 30th. We wanted to go out for a nice dinner beforehand. Any recommendations in StateCollege or the general vicinity? Just about any cuisine will work. We have eaten at Happy Valley Brewing, Ottos, Federal Taphouse, and Faccia Luna. We wanted to try something new. Thanks.

Some random thoughts:

In Toftrees: the Field has delicious but massive burgers, and the American Ale House is a cool spot too—DT met Kendra there, funnily enough.

If you want a bit fancier, Flour & Stone in Pine Grove Mills is great. Or you could get small plates and top notch cocktails next door at Pine Grove Hall and old victorian mansion with speakeasy vibes.

In Lemont, Kamrai is great Sushi and Thai, byob

In State College, Carter’s Table is a humble spot with the best Tacos outside my patio in Central PA. No liquor though.

The normal pre game haunts. Fed Taphouse, Whisky, Champs or Brothers across the street. Marzoni’s, Tripletts. Good food, good pregame crowds. Match is probably at 7pm because you want to be there by 6:30pm. You don’t have a lot of time for a really nice dinner.

For the folks that like beer and bar food… Brothers is a newer restaurant downtown… just past pickle’s and worth a visit

How is Happy Valley Live (the old Damon’s)? I’ve yet to try it since it changed ownership.

I havent eaten there in years. I would stop sometimes when fishing the Little J.
My favorite place to eat.
I took my grandson there to eat the Friday after his 17th birthday and watched as he devoured his plate sized cheeseburger and an order of wings.

My wife and I have a cabin/camp at year round glendale. We spent our anniversary weekend at camp and drove up to Ebensburg and ate at the Backroom Saloon for our anniversary, but that I believe is pretty much at the beginning of your journey.

Im sure it obvious, but no matter where you go book a reservation. I've ran into long wait times at a lot of the mentioned restaurants on event nights. The last time we tried to eat last minute downtown it was bananas 🍌

The Backroom is very good. I like eating there. Last time I was there, I got the pulled pork grilled cheese.

That is our after work hang out when we want to go out. So if you run into a bunch of loud idiots, I was probably one of them.

We have eaten there twice. We went back this fall when Penns Valley played Central Cambria in football. The food was darn good both times, didn't notice any loud idiots. If we r in again and I hear a raucous i will introduce myself.

This time of year, the fireplace there is pretty nice. They have boozy milkshakes if you're into that sort of thing--but yeah, it gets very busy...

Stopped there with my group to try it before Oklahoma match. I would not recommend. Tiny bar and average food. I ordered an old fashioned and they told me they were out of oranges. It was 500 on a Friday.

If you’re up for a stroll downtown to Calder Way, might I suggest two underrated casual places.

Cafe Alina (421 East Calder Way)

A family owned, Pakistani restaurant. My favorites are the Mutton Kahari and the Keema Kahari, and I always get a side of their Channa.

Yummy Cafe (320 East Calder Way)

Not your typical Chinese American restaurant.

My favorites are any of their soups, fish with pickled mustard greens, spicy stir-fried cabbage, tripe with chili sauce, spicy Szechuan popcorn chicken (good practice for your chopstick skills to pick around the plethora of peppers), and their homemade bacon with leeks (best as a shared dish as it is really, really smoky & unctuous).

I am surprised that no one has mentioned The Tavern. Great food and great atmosphere - my family loves to go there.
Been there many times. Loved the food. In nice weather we would bring our dogs and eat outside on the patio. Water was brought for the pups and we ordered cheeseburgers for them. Great chocolate shop and nice wine shop a few doors away.
