He should transfer. This is the downside that some players have to face with coaching changes. Of course, selfishly, it would be great to have his dad as a "fan" for publicity purpose, but he would probably benefit playing with a program that uses a fullback regularly.

I wouldn't hold it against the kid if he did. We're definitely going away from the FB position as per comments from coach Frost.

This is a totally honest question because I didn't pay much attention to his recruitment - What is his skillset/style as a fullback? Did he come here expecting to carry the ball or is he a blocking specialist? I know Jano got some carries a few years ago and it was awesome to see, but I figured that was an aberration.

It just seems kind of strange to hear about a scholarship player transferring to be a fullback when almost no teams use a running fullback anymore haha. You would think his skills could translate around the field if he's a good tough athlete. Looks like his size could be an issue in changing positions though I guess. Is it just a question of whether he would find a spot in the new system, or is he THAT serious about playing a nearly-extinct position?

He was recruited as a RB/fullback. He could be short yardage specialist but we're going to need to go probably 4 deep at RB this year and he has a shot at playing. It kind of depends what his long term goals are. IF he wants to be a coach some day, he might do well to stay at NU and soak up as much as he can from Frost regardless of playing time. IF he has NFL aspirations, he may want to transfer to a pro-style offense.

I realize that it is a different type of offense, but Flowers at OU was a pretty good weapon for the Sooners this last season.

I find it interesting that lots of people want to kick him to the curb right away, with me let it play out, if he's a gifted athlete the coaches will find a place for him

Well, there is a sense of urgency to reduce scholarships given that we will be over our limit when the rest of the incoming freshmen arrive this summer. So, where else should one start than with a player who no longer has a defined position on the team?

That said, what you say still stands—IF he is a gifted athlete.

I would guess if he were truly "gifted" he would already be looking at the possibilities of where he might fit the best IF that is not RB. The reality is he is pretty limited as to what positions he can play, "gifted" or not. Doubtful it is LB, look at all the talent in that group, there are numbers like crazy there. Then he has to beat out whoever is in a position of where he is now gifted to contribute and assume he is gifted enough to earn PT ahead or with them. Also in watching the UCF O a few times I didn't see much for a "short yardage" package, more like no backs, lets spread you out O. Realize he has different athletes now but still, Frost will have his tendencies.

Was his dad more of a Saban (you don’t contribute- you gone) or a Riley type (stay all four years i.e. Adam Taylor)?
There is a difference between a SEC scholarship and a BIG scholarship. A BIG is for four years where as a SEC is not

As others have said, if hes a good football player he has a role on the team somewhere. Doesnt mean he will start or make the NFL. If he wants that he may have to leave, but who knows. Why couldnt he play in shortyardage or be a LB? Of course hes athletic enough. Playing time is never a given though.

Wrong. They are both offering 4 year scholarships. The SEC schools will find ways to persuade players to leave that they don’t want.
