As a Saints fan I think he'll be back elsewhere in time but if you take a look at the Saints QB situation along with the cap situation.....it's just not good. I don't think he wants to ride that out.

Contract runs through 2024 so the Saints would have to be compensated presumably with draft picks.
so? they would come to an understanding....not the first time this happened....
The year was 2019. The month, January. The Cowboys had won 10 of 16 games, along with a wild-card contest against the Seahawks. They lost to the Rams in the divisional round, 30-22. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones contemplated an upgrade from coach Jason Garrett to Sean Payton. Jones wanted to pull the trigger. Payton did, too.

Things unfolded quickly. The Saints had played in the NFC Championship, losing to the Rams on January 20. That week, Jones quietly made his move.

It was a delicate situation, for various reasons. First, the Cowboys had a coach. Jones wouldn’t have fired Garrett unless he knew he could have gotten Payton. Second, league rules (specifically, the Rooney Rule) require a diverse and inclusive search. Third, Jones had to ultimately know that, after going through the motions of a search, he’d be able to get Payton.

So a deal was worked out, behind the scenes. The Saints would have allowed the Cowboys to hire Payton. The Cowboys would have compensated the Saints for the rights to Payton’s contract. And Payton would have signed a new contract with the Cowboys.

"That ended it, just like that. The Saints were no longer interested in essentially trading Payton to the Cowboys. In September, Payton signed a new contract. That deal has three years left on it."

So? Why didn't it happen then and what makes you think something changed that it would happen now? Press conference at 4:00.

what happened? YOu didnt read it? The Saints pulled the plug. Loomis was in charge of the BB team as well, he didnt want 2 popular people leaving NO at the same time. Jerry has a lot of money, it will all come down to money.

Odds are that Payton replaces Aikman on Fox for a year or two before he becomes the Cowboys or another NFL teams HC.

I won’t miss him. Seems overly smug and looked the other way when his players were out to injure their opponents.

There's a higher probability he becomes an analyst for Bama than there is him coaching the Cowboys next season.

I don't think he'll be calling games probably more like Cower and Dungy.

It was far worse. He organized a plot to intentionally knock opponents out of games by instituting a bounty system, then organized a plot to cover it up and lied to the NFL about it. As a result, he is the only NFL coach ever suspended and for an entire season. Now he’s a hero

When Buddy Ryan did it everyone thought it was cute.

Just like Roethlisberger's case was never proved. See how that works?
Ryan was probably guilty, too, a@@clown. In any case, TWO women are much more believable than a single opposing coach. And which crime is worse, injuring an opponent in a football game or rape?

Thanks for expanding on my thoughts. Can’t imagine a player wanting to have him as his coach. He’s far from being a Saint.

Sean kept a very high end home outside of Dallas 15 mins from my home for a number of years even after getting the gig in NO. It would not surprise me AT ALL….to see him back in DFW where he has tons of friends….including the Jones Family. It is no secret that Jerry respects the hell out of Sean.

What kind of man is Marvin Lewis? He kept Burfict around while he was destroying guys careers. It works both ways. I'm not even a fan of Payton. He's a good coach, not an all timer.

You're completely full of garbage and any PSU fan going around accusing people of rape is a total moron.

Your opinions are awful.

I didn’t accuse him of rape but TWO women did. Settled one case, suspended by NFL in the other.

He doesn't want to hold the bag for the situation he created which is pretty typical.
