This may belong in the political thread, someone else can make that decision, but how is it logical that occupants of a private vehicle are legally required to buckle up yet little kids on a school bus are left unprotected by the law?

The kids are protected by the shear size of the vehicle.

Not aware that seat belts are required on any bus anywhere anytime. I was wrong once before.

BTW, who is going to make sure a kindergarten kid has his/her belt on? Who is going to make a HS SR put their belt on? Who is going to monitor that everyone has their belt on? Just asking.

It's more important for kids to be able to quickly get off the bus in an emergency. Having 40 kids all buckled in slows that process.

It is stupid.

I always make sure everyone is wearing them. Still, not sure only lap belts really do much:(

A dear friend of mine drives a bus and has a masters in a foreign language and a professional doctorate. Says he loves it, has middle of day off and a pension. Hated his career. Didn't want to teach, I guess.

"Says" he loves it, that's only because he's accepted his lot in life. When you spend a ton of money and years getting a degree in a foreign language, you don't exactly have a dearth of motivation to ever be successful and wealthy.

Good friend of mine is a achool bus driver and I asked him the same question.

Egress, is the reasoning.

By the way he loves it and it lets him have nights and weekends open to play music as much as he wants.

Picks up extra trips as he needs. He does not make a ton of money, but has good benefits and flexibility

Bonus, the kids love him. Perfect job for him. Short of finally writing that hit song and living get on "mailbox money"

I would think a good defense for why seat-belts aren't used on school buses would be that fire from like 30 years or so ago. Wasn't there a kid on that bus that went on to play football at UK?

I googled the original question because I was curious. Google Images came back with the most racist clip art I've ever seen.
