From the article:

“He’s our coach for a long, long time,” AU athletic director Jay Jacobs said. “He’s a brilliant offensive mind, took us to two national championships: once as a coordinator, once as a head coach. There’s a bunch of schools in this league that would love to be in our position with a guy like him. That’s a tough league. This league is tough every day. It doesn’t matter what year it is — year in, year out, how many years you’ve been here or whatever it may be. There is no doubt about it: he’s the right guy for Auburn.

In June of 2011, Gene Chizik was rewarded with a contract extension, with Jacobs saying at the time Chizik will be “our coach at Auburn for a long, long time.” A year and a half later, Chizik was canned by Jacobs.

So, yeah Malzahn, watch your back for “a long, long time” with Jacobs holding your fate in his hands.

If he has a repeat of last year he won't be around regardless.

Nope, this was done strickly for recruiting purposes, kids are being told Gus will be gone unless AU wins big this fall. They could end up 7th in the West and it wouldn't matter if he was signed to 2030. I hope they keep him forever. But the bright spot for Louisville fans is Art Briles is a better coach and will likely be their first choice, no idea if he would come or not, Petrino moved down a spot.

True that. It's the way things work in the SEC among the perceived top teams, you pays your money and you takes your chances. Really doesn't change anything. Auburn wins big in '16 or Malzahn's likely gone.
