SEC Media Day: what we like

There's a thread about the SEC Media Day with notes and tweets, but nobody is discussing. Been kind of aggravating thinking about what was said and not chatting about it.

Points that really stuck out to me-

1) No QB controversy. Drew Barker has matured and taken the leadership role and gives us something we have desperately needed in all of Stoops's previous seasons: one QB. I think Hinshaw can do a lot with our guy.

2) Jojo referenced no nonsense and a focus on finishing. The athletes are buying in more, leadership is stepping up, and the team is ready to make noise.

3) Matt Elam. Don't jinx it, Coach.

4) Courtney Love got a rare honor. Stoops must be very high on him. Also, looking ahead, our linebackers are going to be stout next year. Seriously. They're young now, fast, talented, but once they get experience, watch out.

5) Stoops appeared to "get it" more so. Seems more relaxed, knows he has a good staff in place, isn't sweating losing recruits, etc. I don't know, I like his calmness.

I can't wait for fall practice reports.

Just like that, I'm drawn in again. What say you all? What stood out to you in the media day?

I live in Alabama so was under the impression that yesterday was Alabama media day.

I think the general feeling this year is we aren't interested in preseason talk and speculation. Let's get to the opener and see the results on the field. Either way, I anticipate plenty of discussion at that point!

That being said, I'm (very) cautiously optimistic for this season. Barring a complete disappointment, I think we will see big things start to happen the next year.

Agreed. I just like that we know who our QB is going to be right from the start. Plus we have a dedicated QB coach. Should expect to have solid QB play that we've been sorely lacking since the era of Hartline.

I generally regard this event as collective coach speak. Not too much "new" comes out of this event. I haven't followed every word but have not heard anything to change my mind from what I had gleaned from other pre-season stories and reports. I think the "best thing" about it is that it really underscores the thought that football season is right around the corner!

And, yeah, no QB controversy at UK this year. But we knew that right? FWIW, i think some of the previous "QB controversies" were a product of not handling the position very well but that should no longer be a problem. Barker will get the maximum opportunity but if for some reason he cannot get it done Johnson showed me some good things in the B/W game.

Peace

I know its kind of off topic so my apologies, but its a damn shame how much grief Hartline caught from our fan base. He would easily have been the best QB of the Stoops era if we had him right now.

Last UK QB to throw for 3,000+ yds/season.

Come on.

He was a 6' 6" stringbean at 179# as a commit, only rated a 5.5, and I have it on good authority that he couldn't throw the ball over ten yards (some of our expert posters on here).

LOL
