Had to be played and this was the easy answer. Both schools bought out their 11/19 opponent. But why was it moved from FL to LSU?

Here is what I read, LSU administration has a policy of not play 3 away games in a row. The cupcake was to be the home game to breakup or stop a 3 away game run. So LSU wasn't going to agree to give up one of their home games. So to play it that date UF had to agree to play it at LSU. Looks like both are going to be playing 11 games this year. But the reality is the game could have been played on Sunday like our game was with USC, UF didn't want to play it on Sunday or Monday. The reasoning for that is it was a big recruiting weekend for them and they didn't want to play it on any day but Sat.

Thanks! Sort of makes sense but it sounds like teams dictating to the conference. I'm not sure "big recruiting weekend" is a enough to warrant not playing on that Sunday. But hey, if they are happy, I'm happy. Is the conference going to be asked to share in the payouts to Presbyterian and South Alabama?

Not a good enough reason...you're right...the game should have been played last Sunday

UF was the one that screwed it all up. LSU would have lost millions of dollars by not having a home game that weekend. UF was hoping to just not play the game at all. But then the SEC office said it would effect the winner of each division. LSU has no shot of winning the west, but flor has a shot at the east. So flor all of a sudden had to bargain, LSU could have cared less. Hence the reason why flor HAD to agree to play at LSU.

LSU has a chance, they win out they are West champs. Now I am not saying its a good chance but they do have one. UF screwed the pooch on this by not playing it last Sat at LSU, Superdome, Ga Dome, of in the Swamp on Sunday or Monday. They would have gotten LSU without Fournette at all or full strength, now they will. UF thought the SEC would give them the benefit of being a game short and they win the conference at 6-1 over a 6-2 UT. SEC said no, 8 games had to be played.

Add that you are talking the south and football so everyone is tuned to the NFL on Sunday/Monday. It would be a revenue hit.

Jeremy Foley is acting like he got violated, screaming and crying over this. It's hilarious.

Incorrect. It had to do with law enforcement and emergency responders (that are typically in Gainesville on a football weekend) were deployed to the coastal areas throughout the weekend, where the destruction occurred, and not available to be in Gainesville. Foley was told this by authorities on Thursday morning when a final call was made, so Sunday wasn't an option. Monday was never an option with both teams having games tomorrow. Both AD's knew if they didn't play the game that neither team would be eligible to win their respective divisions. This apparently was not an issue for LSU, but was for Florida. They were not willing to write off that possibility and really had no choice. If it was going to be played, it had to be in Baton Rouge. Not playing it was never an option for Florida. It was pretty evident from Sankey's remarks that UF in the end was the party that made it happen.

If playing in Gainesville on Sunday was truly impossible due to emergency considerations then it strikes me the SEC should have told LSU "you are playing @ FL on 11/19". Both teams "lose" 1 home game in 2016; sorry about that. Upsetting future schedules seems totally unnecessary. JMO.

Sounds like LSU wouldn't budge much on this.....which gets back to their AD.

Joe Aleva is right now a pretty unpopular person in Louisiana. In this game of chicken, he simply didn't have the luxury or giving much, or else the fans - which interpreted the game of chicken as some sort of status making contest they simply had to win - would ride him out on rails. Sooner than later, he's likely gone anyway.

Ever notice that fans either think their AD is the best ever or the worst?

I hope the weather is as good on the makeup date as it was on the cancellation date. It was a perfect day for a football game down here the day they cancelled. Just perfect

LSU refused to give up a home game. Sounds like McElwain saved the day and basically put his chips on 2017 where his SEC road schedule will be Mizzou, UK, and South Carolina.

The SEC told both schools they had to play 8 conference games to be eligible for the SEC championship game, so they had to figure it out. Looks like a small victory for LSU. I think a large number of LSU fans who wanted Miles gone would like to see Alleva gone as well.

Well, that certainly looks like a favorable 2017 road schedule for the Gators!

IMO, it is not about what LSU wants. It is about what is best for the conference. If they don't like what the conference thinks is best I'm sure they will welcomed with open arms to the BIG-XII-II. [winking]

Florida loses two home games in this deal and LSU loses one away game. I understand LSU's desire not to have the season end with 3 away games, but this game had to be played for SEC credibility and LSU seemingly bullied a better situation for them.

I would say most feel the same about their AD that they feel about their Coach which is,, they don't like either , if they have been at that particular school long. A famous(or maybe infamous) bb coach said 'familiarity breeds contempt",, I think he is right as far as coaches and AD's are concerned!

All true. FL not having a backup plan was what cost them. Good.

And a poor one at that.
